Is there a 3D printer in your future? It’s really no longer a question of if, but when. That’s because now, after more than three decades, the technology known officially as “additive manufacturing” is finally maturing and mainstreaming—and transforming modern manufacturing in the process.

According to Wohlers Associates, a Colorado-based manufacturing consulting firm, 3D printing company revenues have seen a 16% compound annual growth rate over the past decade. That is partly because the last 10 years have also seen 3D printing companies making major technological strides while substantially lowering costs.

All SEMA members are invited to attend the PWA Kickoff Reception, taking place Sunday, August 30, 6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. at the SEMA Garage in Diamond Bar, California.

“While the SEMA Garage has played a key role in assisting hundreds of manufacturers since opening just a couple of years ago, we are excited and anticipate that the improvements will allow us to reach thousands of members,” said Mike Spagnola, SEMA vice president, OEM and product development. “Our new equipment is highly advanced and helps members bring products to market in a quick and low-cost manner.”

The event marks the official debut of the newly remodeled SEMA Garage. Featuring an all-new emissions lab, upgraded FARO Arm scanner and 3D printer, state-of-the-art training facility and more, the SEMA Garage is available to help all industry manufacturers develop products faster, more accurately and affordably.

“We hope that the industry is able to take the time to join us for the PWA Kickoff Reception, so that they can see the equipment firsthand in action,” said Spagnola. “We appreciate the PWA opening their event up to the entire industry and allowing us to host them at the SEMA Garage.”

While trade events and large automotive gatherings such as the upcoming SEMA Show in November offer manufacturers unparalleled opportunities to introduce products to hungry buyers, they also present a challenge. How does a company break out and get noticed amid a sea of competitors and busy floor activity? For many companies, the answer is a show or project vehicle—which can not only grab attention at the Show but continue holding it long after if done right.
