New NBCSN Show Offers Viewers Insider Access to Professional Motorsports

A new documentary series launching this fall offers viewers unprecedented access to the high-stakes world of professional auto racing. “Motorclub” focuses on the personal stories and experiences of leading action motorsport stars, including multi-series champion and stunt driver Tanner Foust, action sport superstar and Nitro Circus founder Travis Pastrana, motocross innovator and truck racer Brian Deegan, U.S. Formula One star turned rallycross champ Scott Speed, skateboarding and rallycross pro Bucky Lasek, FMX rider Jackson Strong and legendary drifter Ken Gushi.

“Motorclub” invites viewers behind the scenes to share in the lives of these compelling personalities both on and off the racetrack. The show joins the NBC Sports Network's schedule this fall, premiering alongside “Nitro Circus,” one of its most popular action sports programs. The first episode of “Motorclub” airs October 20 at 11:00 p.m. (EDT).

VP Racing Fuels Contingency Awards at Stake in PDRA Finals

The Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) will stage its final event of the season this weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park, and among the awards at stake is $5,700 in fuel credits posted by VP Racing Fuels—the Official Fuel of PDRA. The awards include $1,000 to the champion in each of the Pro automotive classes, $500 to Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster champions and $100 each to the Junior Dragster and Top Junior Dragster champion. In addition to gift certificates in these amounts to be awarded at the end-of-year banquet, each class champion also will receive a VP Racing Fuels Championship jacket.

Bestop sponsored Team HD members Shelby Hall and Amy Lerner as well as Team Wild and Free members Holly Freeman and Coralee Lack in the inaugural Rebelle Rally—a seven-day off-road navigation and driving competition across the American Southwest, which took place October 15–21, 2016. The rally covered 1,200 miles of rugged terrain from Lake Tahoe to San Diego, and required competitors to find their way to 8–10 checkpoints each day using only a road book, map and compass. Hall and Lerner competed in the first women’s off-road navigation rally race in the United States in a ’15 Jeep Wrangler.

ProMedia Events, home of the NMCA Muscle Car Drag Racing Series presented by E3 Spark Plugs, has announced the 2017 schedule for the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series. Developed from the LSX Shootout, the Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series features vehicles equipped with Chevrolet LS and modern LT powerplants. The series has six classes for all participant levels. The Chevrolet Performance Challenge Series will run at four select events:

Volkswagen driver Sébastien Ogier and his co-driver Julien Ingrassia won the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) for the fourth time with a victory at the Rally Spain. Round 11 of the season saw the French duo wrap up the title with two races still to come to be crowned world rally champions in the Volkswagen Polo R WRC for the fourth year in a row, having previously won in 2013, 2014 and 2015. The Rally Spain also represented a milestone for the Polo R WRC—the car’s 50th start in the World Rally Championship ended with win number 41 for the 318hp, four-wheel drive powerhouse. No other car in the history of the World Rally Championship has racked up as many victories in such a short time as the Polo. The Manufacturers’ Championship will be decided in one of the two rallies still to come with Volkswagen leading with 62 points from Hyundai.

Toyo Tires and Ken Block Announce All-New Video Series “Climbkhana”

Toyo Tire U.S.A. has teamed up with World RallyX driver Ken Block to present a new film series entitled “Climbkhana,” featuring Block’s ’65 Ford Mustang Hoonicorn RTR V2, which was upgraded for the film and now features a twin-turbo, methanol-powered, 1,400-hp V8 engine, along with Toyo Proxes R888R tires. Coinciding with the launch of the film, the Proxes R888R is now available in the United States for the first time ever. Block’s Hoonigan Media Machine began filming the project this fall at Historic Pikes Peak. Joining Gymkhana creative veteran and Hoonigan’s own Brian Scotto for director duties is Jeff Zwart. The commercial director, known best for his work with Porsche through RadicalMedia, also holds three records and eight class wins over the 15 times he has raced up the Colorado mountain. The film will be released in summer 2017.

The Quarter Mile Foundation has announced “Hustling a Husler”—A Roast and Toast of Bob Vandergriff Sr., presented by Hedman Husler Hedders and the Quarter Mile Foundation, and sponsored by the Marriott Indianapolis Downtown, Thursday evening, December 8, 2016. RTM Announces “PowerNation on the Road” From the 2016 SEMA Show Primetime Airing November 10

RTM—Raycom Media Company and the producer of the “PowerNation” automotive television program—has announced that “PowerNation on the Road” will air in primetime, November 10, on NBCSN from the 50th-anniversary 2016 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, where PowerNation Host Katie Osborne will provide coverage. In addition, “PowerNation Daily” host Gannon Pritchard, “Truck Tech’s” Jeremy Bumpus and “Detroit Muscle’s” Marc Christ and Tommy Boshers will bring America the biggest scoops. Gale Banks Engineering has appointed Jon Apogée to the position of director of corporate communications. Apogée will be responsible for all aspects of brand management, strategic marketing, press releases and media planning. His duties include providing direction and implementation for social media marketing and re-launching the Banks Power brand. With more than 30 years of experience, Apogée is a veteran in the OE and automotive aftermarket industry. He has worked with Prolong Super Lubricants as general manager: domestic sales, marketing and motorsports, and owned Marketing Matters Inc.—an advertising agency specializing in the automotive aftermarket. Prior to Marketing Matters, Apogée was the vice president of DuBois Advertising in Ontario, California, and director of marketing for SEMA. Apogée also created the Motorsports department for Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, where he guided the company into the U.S. racing circuit and led Mitsubishi to become the first manufacturer to win the Class 7 (mini pickup) championship in both the High Desert Racing Association (HDRA) and Southern California Off Road Enterprises (SCORE) championships.

Power Automedia has announced the hiring of Scott Parker as the company’s editorial director of content and strategy. Parker will be responsible for leading all editorial and video content across Power Automedia’s 12 automotive magazines and taking on general management responsibilities. Parker will work hand-in-hand with Editorial Operations Manager Andrew Almazan and Associate Content Director Trevor Anderson to craft Power Automedia’s editorial voice. Power Automedia also has announced the hiring of Steve Grein as Power Studio’s general manager. Skyjacker Suspensions Announces Appointment of Lonnie McCurry “Jr.” to President

Skyjacker has promoted Lonnie McCurry “Jr.” to the position of president. He will take the reins from Lonnie McCurry Sr. Lonnie Jr. has more than 30 years of experience at Skyjacker, and has served in many roles and capacities, most recently as the chief operations officer for the company. As president, Lonnie Jr. will be directly responsible for overseeing all of Skyjacker’s manufacturing and company operations. This transition will allow Lonnie Sr. to concentrate on his role as CEO and chairman of the board. Skyjacker is operated out of West Monroe, Louisiana, was established in 1974 and remains family owned with three generations actively involved.

Chris Baer Named President of VIPAR Heavy Duty

VIPAR Heavy Duty chairman Bill Nolan announced today at the organization’s annual business conference in Orlando that Chris Baer has been named its new president. Baer joined VIPAR Heavy Duty in January 2002 as director of program management, and in November 2003, he was named vice president and a corporate officer. Baer was promoted to executive vice president of VIPAR Heavy Duty in November 2014. Before joining VIPAR Heavy Duty, Baer was with Chicago Rawhide/SKF for 17 years in a variety of sales management roles, including director of automotive aftermarket sales. Baer has served as a member of the AWDA Young Executive Society (YES) committee and earned the Automotive Aftermarket Professional (AAP) designation from the University of the Aftermarket. He is a 2014 recipient of the Northwood University Automotive Aftermarket Management Education Award.

RealTruck.com Announces Fourth Annual Vendor Awards Finalists

RealTruck.com has announced the finalists of its 2016 Vendor Awards. In its fourth year, the Vendor Awards aim to recognize companies that went above and beyond in delivering on their commitment to RealTruck and its customers in the last year. Finalists were selected by a panel of four judges, with an extra point awarded to any company nominated internally by a RealTruck employee.

The SEMA Data Co-op is offering free data-management consultations during the 2016 SEMA Show.

The SEMA Data Co-op (SDC) team will be out in full force during Show week to offer free data-management consultations.

“We have a really strong team attending this year, including data lab staff who will be providing on-site data reviews for members,” said Jon Wyly, SDC CEO. “It's a great opportunity to get some face-to-face time with the SDC, including deep technical dives with our industry-leading data experts, who will be in attendance. If you have questions about the industry ACES and PIES standards, need more information about how to join or just want to get a good, solid introduction to our services, we have the people available to make it happen.”

The SDC is scheduling meetings every hour from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. during the Show (until Friday at 4:00 p.m.). The SDC booth is located behind the Ford display in Central Hall, in the raised meeting room #20579.

“The SEMA Data Co-op is the only industry-owned and -operated product-data repository, complete with state-of-the-art tools and expert assistance to get your data in order," said Jim Graven, director of membership. “We really enjoy the opportunity to meet with companies that have struggled with their data, or just don’t know where to start. And data receivers love our program, which provides unlimited data exports at no charge to SEMA members.”
