SEMA News
Nominations for the 2020 SEMA News 35 Under 35 are due May 31.

September’s issue of SEMA News will highlight up-and-coming superstars in the automotive aftermarket industry who are age 35 and younger. If you know a leader in that age range as of September 1, 2020—whether they are in manufacturing and design, marketing, retail, events and media, or distribution—we would like to hear from you.

Many SEMA members are currently working with creative young professionals who are already industry trailblazers. They may have played key roles in leveraging new and emerging technologies with a traditional automotive aftermarket business to expand company reach, improve product development, energize marketing efforts or upgrade customer interaction.

They could be budding talents at an established company, entrepreneurs building their own brands or innovators who have launched companies that might become big names in the future. What they all will have in common are fresh ideas, enthusiasm, charisma and the drive to succeed.

SEMA News looks for candidates drawn from diverse industry segments who are already making a significant impact through their leadership within their organizations or businesses. Entrepreneurship, commitment, insight, innovation, integrity, responsibility, demonstrated skill, involvement and success within the marketplace weigh heavily in the decision-making process. We’ll honor the winners in the September issue of SEMA News and on www.sema.org.

Nominate a candidate now for the 2020 SEMA News 35 Under 35. Nominations are due May 31.

The Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2020 enacted on March 6 (Public Law 116-123) includes a provision allowing companies to seek a Small Business Administration (SBA) emergency loan of up to $2 million. Small businesses in at least 17 states are now eligible to apply, and many more states are expected to qualify for loans in the near future. For motor vehicle parts manufacturers, the definition of “small business” ranges from 1,000 to 1,500 employees or less depending upon the specific product.

Details:

  • Loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that can’t be paid because of the disaster’s impact. The interest rates are 3.75% for small businesses and 2.75% for non-profits.
  • March 25 update: Small business owners in all U.S. states and territories are currently eligible to apply for a Coronavirus loan.

BMW

Spies in Munich have been lucky to snap new revealing shots of the ’21 BMW 4-Series, including the (controversial) front end. The model features a massive twin-kidney grille, which echoes the one used on the Concept 4.

However, there are some subtle differences as the grille on this car features a black or body color central divider and a different mesh pattern, which in these pictures, makes it look like a giant version of Kia’s so-called Tiger grille.

Besides the grille, several other styling features align with the Concept 4. Chief among them are a V-shaped central air intake and the similarly styled headlights. The massive front piece shouldn’t be too surprising at this point as it’s been photographed multiple times. Putting aside the grille, the 4-Series will follow in the footsteps of the 3-Series and be offered with an assortment of different engines. At launch, a 430i with a turbocharged 2.L four-cylinder developing 255 hp and 300 lb.-ft. of torque is expected. It should be joined by an M440i featuring a turbocharged 3.0L six-cylinder engine with 382 hp and 370 lb.-ft. of torque.

Later, there will be an all-new M4 with a 3.0L M TwinPower Turbo engine that develops 473 hp 440 lb.-ft. of torque. Fans looking for more power will be able to opt for a Competition variant packing 503 hp and also 440 lb.-ft. of torque.
