More than 110 representatives from SEMA-member companies will descend on the nation’s capital to participate in SEMA’s 2018 Washington Rally, Wednesday, May 16.

During the event, SEMA members will urge Congress to pass H.R. 350/S.203, the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act. The bipartisan bill would protect Americans’ right to modify street vehicles into dedicated racecars and the industry’s right to sell the parts that enable racers to compete. More than 180 members of Congress have cosponsored the RPM Act, and the number continues to grow.

Members will also raise awareness of other issues facing the specialty-equipment industry, including harmful tariffs, preventing higher ethanol content in gasoline and saving the Bonneville Salt Flats.

“One-on-one meetings with legislators are among the best ways to impact lawmakers who are making decisions that affect SEMA-member businesses,” said Chris Kersting, SEMA president and CEO. “The SEMA Washington Rally helps lawmakers hear directly from constituents and informs them about the issues that are most important to our industry.”

The Central Hall—which includes the Racing & Performance, Hot Rod Alley, Restoration Marketplace and First-Time & Featured Exhibitors sections—and the North Hall—which features the Collision Repair & Refinish, Mobile Electronics & Technology, Restyling & Car Care Accessories and Tools & Equipment sections—are almost full. The Upper South Hall—which includes Trucks, SUV & Off-Road; Powersports & Utility Vehicles; First-Time & Features Exhibitors; and Business Services—and Lower South Hall—which includes the Global Tire Expo Powered by TIA and Wheels & Tires—are currently being filled.

Exhibitors should have been contacted via email with their date and booth selection time range by April 27. Those who did not receive a correspondence, want to change the primary Show contact listed on their application, or have any other questions or concerns should contact a sales representative at sales@sema.org or call 909-396-0289.

Companies interested in buying a booth at the upcoming event can visit the SEMA Show website for more information; however, these exhibitors are not eligible to participate in the current space selection process.

35 Under 35
If you know an industry leader under the age of 35 as of September 1, 2018, SEMA News would like to hear from you.

For the sixth consecutive year, SEMA News is looking to highlight top-tier talent in the automotive aftermarket industry who are age 35 and younger. We need your input. If you know a leader in that age range as of September 1, 2018—whether they are in manufacturing and design, marketing, retail, events and media, or distribution—we would like to hear from you.

It is very likely that SEMA members are currently working with creative and talented young professionals who are already moving the industry in new and different directions. They might be people who have played key roles in leveraging new and emerging technologies with a traditional automotive aftermarket business to expand company reach, improve product development, energize marketing efforts or upgrade customer interaction.

They could be budding superstars at an established company, entrepreneurs building their own brands or innovators who have launched companies that might become big names in the future. What they all will have in common are fresh ideas, enthusiasm, charisma and the drive to succeed. These are people who know what’s going on at the ground level, who see opportunities that are now forming and who travel in circles that may be very different from those of our “old-school” industry leaders.

Winners will be chosen based on their business success, contribution to their organization, industry knowledge and community involvement. We’ll honor the winners in the September issue of SEMA News and on www.sema.org.

Nominate a candidate now for the 2018 SEMA News 35 Under 35. Nominations are due May 31, 2018.
