SEMA Show’s Top Speakers: It’s All About the People

The automotive business is a people business. It isn’t just your customers and the way you treat them that can spell success or failure for your organization either, it’s also the people who work for you and with you. That’s why some of the best-known, most exciting speakers at the SEMA Show this year will delve into topics surrounding the human beings who make up the industry.

You can start on Monday morning, November 2, with a writer and former deputy managing editor at The Wall Street Journal, who will offer a “Communication Roadmap for Men and Women.” As a journalist, Joanne Lipman set out to learn about how men and women relate in the workplace. She discovered that, while there are plenty of career-advice books for women, there’s not too much advice out there for the men who work with them and don’t always understand their female counterparts.

Nevertheless, Lipman eventually found many companies where the men and women did work well together—and she’s ready to tell you how your company can become one of them.

Later in the day, Gene Marks, an expert on dealing with changes in the economy, will discuss “The Next 2 Years: Your People.” Marks knows that the business world moves quickly and turning that reality into an opportunity will depend on whether you have the right employees with you. Every day, there are new issues and challenges in managing people. In his talk, Marks will tell you what you need to do to hire and keep the best people available—not in the distant future, but over the next two years, which he says may be the most important time in the life of your company.

Then on Wednesday, during Keynote & Coffee, the SEMA Show’s popular series in which thought leaders in business and industry help you get an early start on your day with stimulating perspectives, Bridget Brennan, CEO of the Female Factor, will clue you in on the tremendous buying power held by Millennial women.

As women born between 1980 and 2000 begin to take their place in society, they are making a tremendous number of buying decisions, all with a perspective influenced by social media and technology that older women consumers never had. How do you reach this new target audience? Brennan will tell you.
