Spy Shots—More Agressive Civic for 2016?

2016 Honda Civic

Here is a quality look at a lightly camouflaged prototype of the 2016 Civic, the compact that Honda is gearing up to go head-to-head with Ford’s Focus. KGP’s shooter equipped with a powerful lens captured some of the next-gen Civic’s new details, such as a good outline of the grille and headlight shapes, along with some of the new car's aggressive front bumper treatment.

After a closer look at the prototype’s styling, the photographer reported that the Civic may take some visual inspiration from Honda's earlier AC-X concept, both in the front fascia treatment, and its rakish side-window-profile.

The new Civic is expected to use an all-new, flexible platform, rumored to also be adapted to underpin Honda's next-generation Accord and CR-V. The prototype pictured here has a four-door configuration, with a steeply-raked backlight, resulting in a fastback shape. The stance and silhouette looks to be a vast improvement over the current Civic.

KGP photography had this prototype show up rather unexpectedly—and a bit sooner than anticipated. Honda's rumored move to a new, more cost-effective modular platform could explain an accelerated arrival for an all-new Civic.
