Robert (Bob) Kern, former SEMA relations manager for General Motors, passed away January 5 of a heart attack.

Kern worked with SEMA and it members for more than 12 years, serving an integral role of connecting specialty-equipment manufacturers and project-vehicle builders with the engineers and product development teams of GM. He was also the primary conduit between SEMA and GM for the automaker's project-vehicle program, a role that helped SEMA Show exhibitors secure approval to GM vehicles for project builds.

Visitation for Kern is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.,  Saturday, January 11, at Desmond & Sons in Troy, Michigan. Services will follow. Kern was well-liked and respected throughout the automotive industry, and friends of Kern are invited and welcome to the funeral home.

The family has requested that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Wounded Warriors Project in Kern's name.
