Georgia State Rep. Calvin Hill, 66, passed away October 30 after battling leukemia. A former member of the SEMA Board of Directors, Hill was an entrepreneur who started several domestic and international businesses.

Born April 8, 1947, in California and raised in Arizona, Hill studied business at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, training in engineering and demolition. He and wife Cheryl moved to Georgia in 1986.

Hill was first elected as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives in 2002. Prior to his legislative service, he had been mayor of Ball Ground, Georgia, for two terms in the early ’90s.

Georgia House Speaker David Ralston said in a statement, “Calvin Hill was one of the most principled public servants in our state. He fought hard for the ideals he believed in and never grew weary of doing what was right.”

In addition to his other good work for the state, his passion for the car hobby in service to his constituents was an inspiration. A member of the State Automotive Enthusiast Leadership Caucus, Representative Hill worked closely with the SEMA Action Netwrok (SAN) on issues critical to the automotive hobby.

Hill is survived by his wife, Cheryl Hill of Canton; his mother, Carol Hill of Canton; five sons, Bob, Adam and Austin Hill of California, Jason Hill and Matt Jobe of Woodstock; a daughter, Amanda Locke of Woodstock; a sister, Janice Rodriguez of California; and three grandchildren.
