With the winter-test season coming to an end, here is a good look at the upcoming Mk7 Golf. While the VW Golf Mk6 has only been on sale since 2009, the images, shot by a team member of Brenda Priddy & Co., are proof that the Mk7 is already under way.
According to Priddy, the Mk7 Golf is in for a big change underneath—it will be moving to VW's flexible MQB chassis. This same chassis will underpin the next-generation Audi A3 and several other models throughout the Volkswagen AG lineup.
Under the hood, the new Golf will have an equally new 2.0L turbo-charged, direct injected four-cylinder, good for 170–180 hp. Priddy's team thinks this might finally signal the end of VW's 2.5L five-cylinder, which is expected to be replaced with a 1.8L turbo.
The 2.0L TDi will also continue to be offered, along with a full EV model as well.
The team says to watch for production to start around the middle of 2013.
