Building Your Social Network With SEMA Councils and Committees

Social Media Sites
SEMA’s very own social networking site, MySEMA, was specially designed as a communication tool to help members stay connected and accomplish their networking goals.

Access to specialized professional networks is part of the benefit of council and committee membership. Council and committee members are invited to connect on MySEMA, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Launched in 2009, SEMA’s very own social networking site, MySEMA, was specially designed as a communication tool to help members stay connected and accomplish their networking goals. This powerful interface allows members to select and receive the types of information most applicable to their business, based on geographic location, market focus and job type.

Member users can introduce themselves, send messages, request specific content, join specialized groups and participate in group discussions.

To join a group, users must first set up their personalized MySEMA account. From there, users can browse and request to join relevant interest groups. Right now, there are 32 groups available on MySEMA, including groups dedicated to each of the 12 councils and committees. All of the council pages now include links to corresponding council fan pages on MySEMA, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Members are encouraged to follow or join relevant member groups and fan pages on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, allowing councils and committees to network with each other and connect with individuals outside of SEMA membership. Members are encouraged to share information, post links and start and participate in discussions that not only appeal to the interests of the group, but endorse the benefits of SEMA and council membership to future members.

If you haven’t had the chance to visit your council’s social networking sites, we encourage you to do so and let us know what you think. Your council liaisons will be working hand in hand with council leadership to fine-tune these tools to help you stay connected and, ultimately, grow your membership.
