Monorail
With a stop directly in front of the convention center and another stop by the Westgate, where many SEMA Show activities take place, the monorail is a great option for getting to the SEMA Show each day.

SEMA Show attendees have several time-saving and efficient options for getting to the Show each day. While construction at the Las Vegas Convention Center has resulted in limited parking, alternative options such as the Las Vegas Monorail, hotel shuttles, taxis and Uber/Lyft are all readily available and easy to use.

Showgoers should consider the following options:

Monorail: With seven stations covering nearly four miles, including a stop directly in front of the convention center and another stop by the Westgate, where many SEMA Show activities take place, the monorail is a great option for getting to the SEMA Show each day. Trains arrive every few minutes, and will begin operation at 6:00 a.m. on SEMA Show days (Tuesday–Friday, November 5–8). Showgoers can save money and purchase discounted multiday monorail passes.

Hotel Shuttle: Free shuttle service is provided throughout the week, to/from the SEMA Show and 33 hotel partners. The shuttles operate every 20–30 minutes from the hotels to the Las Vegas Convention Center Tuesday–Friday, from 7:00 a.m.–10:30 a.m., the week of the Show, with return service Tuesday–Thursday, from 3:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m., and Friday, from 2:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. A complete list of hotels, pick-up locations and route details are available at www.SEMAShow.com. Complimentary shuttles are also available every 5–10 minutes to the AAPEX Show at the Sands Expo Center. Pickup/drop-off locations are at the east end of the Performance Pavilion and North Hall Door 10.

Uber/Lyft: The SEMA Show has designated transportation hubs to make drop-off and pick-ups at the convention center via Uber or Lyft easy and efficient. The two designated drop-off and pick-up areas are on the East side of the Performance Pavilion and in the Blue Lot on the east end of the Grand Lobby, adjacent to the Central Hall. The transportation hubs are designed so that vehicles can quickly and safely drive through.

Taxis and Limousines: There are two SEMA Show designated drop-off and pick-up areas. These transportation hubs are located on the east side of the Performance Pavilion and in the Blue Lot on the east end of the Grand Lobby. For more information, call the Nevada Taxicab Authority Dispatch at 702-668-4005.

Those who drive to the convention center will see that the Gold Lot, where parking had previously been available, is currently undergoing construction and they will be directed to a remote lot. Limited LVCC parking is available for $10 daily on Show days with in/out privileges in the Platinum Lot. There will be no parking in the Platinum Lot Thursday, November 7, and Friday, November 8.

Join SEMA for a webinar, Thursday, October 17, at 10:00 a.m. (PDT) to review the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2018 Wayfair Decision. The webinar will be presented by Anna Ferraro, CPA of the accounting firm Moss Adams, and sponsored by the Hot Rod Industry Alliance (HRIA) and SEMA Education.

Register now!

The webinar is open to all SEMA members, free of charge. After registering, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with instructions for joining.

Background: In 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its Wayfair decision that allows states to require sales-tax collections based solely on the volume of sales into that state (economic nexus). The Court overturned its 1992 Quill decision, which previously required a company to have a physical presence before it could be compelled to collect sales tax.

Cash-strapped states have quickly implemented their new authority. Nearly all 45 states that collect sales tax have updated their regulations to require collection. There is no one national standard. Rather, each state is setting minimum-dollar thresholds that trigger collection. In some states, that threshold may also be tied to the number of sales transactions; for example, $100,000 in sales or 200 transactions annually.

Anna Ferraro, from the accounting firm Moss Adams, will walk-through the Wayfair decision and explain how it may impact SEMA-member companies with remote sales or drop shipments. Issues covered include: Does your company already have a physical presence in the state? If so, why shouldn’t your company quickly register to pay sales tax? How do you register with the state? How do you remit taxes? What are some tax software options?

Immediate questions? Contact Stuart Gosswein at stuartg@sema.org.
