SEMA invites all industry professionals to join the children of Childhelp and Victory Junction Gang Camp for three days of building cars to race in this summer’s Pinewood Drag Races, held in conjunction with the 2010 SEMA Installation Banquet & Gala Fundraiser, July 23–24, at the Pasadena Convention Center, Pasadena, California.

On Saturday, May 1, join the children of Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, North Carolina, for a day of crafting cars. Or if you’re near Southern California a week later, Saturday, May 8, stop in at Childhelp Village in Beaumont, California, where kids will be sanding, painting and assembling cars for the third annual races from 9:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

Finally, on Saturday, May 22, the kids at Childhelp Village in Lignum, Virginia, will be building cars during two sessions, one from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., then again after lunch from 12:45 p.m.–4:30 p.m. Feel free to join for lunch and stay as long as you’re able.

Legislation (A.B. 1740) in the California Assembly to increase the registration limit for exempted specially constructed vehicle (kit car) registrations from 500 to 750 vehicles per year was approved by the Appropriations Committee. The bill will next move to the floor of the Assembly for a vote by all members. Under current California policy, specially constructed vehicles that do not receive one of the 500 sequence numbers are subject to a "muddied" titling, registration and smog-check process.

A.B. 1740 will help allow more vehicle owners to confidently take advantage of a newly enacted vehicle registration amnesty program for specially constructed vehicles that were previously registered or classified incorrectly. Under the new law, the DMV will grant amnesty from prosecution to vehicle owners if certain conditions are met, including the owner filing a completed application with the department.
