Mustang Turbo

The Camaro Z/28 is still about six months away, but judging by these shots delivered by the photographers at Brenda Priddy & Co., Ford may already be working on its answer to Chevy's hot rod.

According to Priddy, body parts from the California Special are up front, and a glance at the side reveals the same tires and wheels from the GT500 as well as the same Brembo brake package.

The real eye-opener comes when you take a peek inside this prototype. The redline on the tachometer is a few ticks past 8,000 rpm, and there is also the blue sticker on the windshield on the driver's side that starts with "TT." This is something Priddy witnessed on numerous twin-turbo, F-150 Ecoboost mules during the past year.

Priddy's shooters asked all their sources about the possibility of this being an early, twin-turbo V8 mule. While the first answer received wasn't a direct one, they were told that every new powertrain Ford has been working on for the last year or so was "package protected for single- or twin-turbo applications." Priddy also said that other sources have indicated a twin-turbo, 5.0L "Roadrunner" V8 is most definitely under the hood of this mule.

Watch for more details on a twin-turbo Shelby GT500 to be shaken loose during the upcoming auto show season.
