One of the best opportunities for exhibitors to promote their SEMA Show debut is by sending press release materials into SEMA's publication department.

New Product Promotion

One of SEMA's pre-Show publications is SEMA's monthly magazine—SEMA News. Though it's published year-round, in the months leading up to the Show, it's an excellent resource for Show attendees. In fact, the October issue will focus specifically on new products to be unveiled at the 2012 SEMA Show.

To be included, simply e-mail Managing Editor Carr Winn a brief description of the product and include a high-resolution image in either tif, eps or jpeg format. The deadline to send materials for consideration is August 14, 2012. Please review the following PDF for details about the word count and image size required to be included in the new product sneak peek.

For any questions about pre-Show coverage in SEMA News, please contact Carr Winn at carrw@sema.org.

Submission Policy: All submissions will be featured in pre-Show publications based on the order in which they were received on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event that the publications department receives more submissions than it can accommodate, the unpublished items will be placed on a waiting list and then included when and if additional space becomes available.

Wheel, suspension, air-intake, exhaust, in-car entertainment, bedliner, grille guard and tonneau cover manufacturers are just some of the company types that participated in the recently conducted Toyota HiLux Measuring Session.

The first of a series of Measuring Sessions for the Toyota HiLux took place this week at the SEMA headquarters in Diamond Bar, California. SEMA imported a Toyota HiLux 4x4 double cab to the United States as part of a new program to provide SEMA members access to vehicles that are popular overseas but not sold in the United States. The session drew parts producers from across the industry, including manufacturers of wheels and tires, suspension products, engine performance enhancements, interior components and more.

All of the participants were provided time with the HiLux over the two-day session to examine the truck inside and out in an effort to gather the specs and data needed to produce HiLux parts and make them available for export.

This session and the ones to follow are made possible by a Department of Commerce Market Development Cooperator Program grant from the U.S. government, which is working in partnership with SEMA to identify and create export opportunities for SEMA members.

"I applaud SEMA for their creativity, providing access to a new vehicle of this type, enabling small- and medium-size specialty parts manufacturers to prepare for this new opportunity and to export more products to new overseas markets," said Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez.

The HiLux was chosen by SEMA-member manufacturers because of its popularity overseas and for the variety of opportunities it presents for specialty-equipment and accessories—ranging from off-road components and utility products to items that enhance interior comfort and convenience.

"The HiLux is widely available and accessorized overseas, but it's not sold here in the United States," stated Linda Spencer, SEMA director of international and government relations. Because of that appeal and popularity, it's the ideal vehicle for SEMA members to measure, make and prototype parts that are exportable."

Since its introduction, the HiLux has achieved nearly 14 million units sold in 135 countries worldwide. It is also a top-selling vehicle in key countries/regions, including Australia, New Zealand, Europe, South Africa, Central America and the Middle East.

"SEMA is working closely with the Department of Commerce for this session, as well as a number of other programs all aimed to help small U.S. companies export overseas," continued Spencer. "This is just the beginning, and plans for the second vehicle and subsequent measuring sessions are already in the works."

The remaining sessions are:
  • August 14 – Link Engineering Facility in Dearborn, Michigan
  • August 22 – Clemson University in Greenville, South Carolina

Register now to participate in one of the remaining 2012 Toyota HiLux Measuring Sessions. To find out more about program, contact Linda Spencer at lindas@sema.org.

Each exhibitor is assigned a target time, which is the time for your freight to arrive at the SEMA Show. You can find all target times in the bottom left corner of the "Exhibitor Manual" page on www.SEMAShow.com. OFFICIAL CONTRACTOR SPOTLIGHT – EXPO EASE

When drawing buyers to your booth, atmosphere is everything. Yet exhibitors frequently overlook the subtle touches that can make them stand out in a crowd. One example is greenery. "There are more than 2,000 exhibitors at the SEMA Show,” said Peter Frigeri, president of Expo Ease, a Las Vegas-based specialty service provider for trade shows and special events focusing on plant, floral, photography and staffing. “With smaller exhibits like a 10x10 or a 10x20, people can walk right by them. Hour after hour, they start to blur together. If you can add something pretty reasonable, such as plants or a floral arrangement, something colorful or a little eye-catching, it can make all the difference to someone walking by your booth.”

“It can add a touch of class in a booth; it can also enhance a message or work with a theme,” Frigeri explained. “With trucks, for instance, you can do a desert theme. We can provide that kind of décor. Or, if it’s woodsy, we can work with that. We’ve decorated around trucks to make them look like they’re in off-road races. It just enhances the ambiance and makes a booth more inviting and professional looking.”

Expo Ease strives to make such plant and floral arrangements easy on an exhibitor’s budget, as well. Basic assortment packages start at as little as $140. In addition, the company also supplies another often-overlooked service: photography.

“Exhibitors spend a lot of money on their exhibits and then don’t take advantage of the moment, with their products set up nicely and lit,” said Frigeri. He added that Expo Ease will take professional photos of product, customers and salespeople in the booth for later use on a company’s website, Facebook pages or in other promotional materials for prices starting at $165.

“We want exhibitors to think in terms of new media—extending their trade-show floor to customers who may not have been at the Show or customers who may be at the Show but are very busy,” he said. “Getting these images from us very quickly, tweeting them out, putting them on Facebook or on a website can generate excitement off the Show floor to bring people into their booths or let their customers who aren’t there see the exciting things they’re doing, especially for product launches. It’s really priceless. It’s an implied endorsement when a customer’s holding the product.”
