Legislation to require that motor vehicles display only a single license plate on the rear of the vehicle was approved by the Ohio House Transportation, Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee. The bill now moves to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote by all members. The bill, favored by state hobbyists, would save money, conserve resources and bring Ohio in line with other states that have moved to a single-plate requirement.

Similarly, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman and the Las Vegas City Council again proclaimed July 10, 2013, as Collector Car Appreciation Day in the city. New Mexico and Las Vegas join New York and the province of Nova Scotia in recognizing the day. Earlier this year, the U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 176 at SEMA’s request to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. The date marks the fourth commemoration in what has become an annual event.  

In the previous three years, thousands of Americans have gathered at car cruises, parades and other events to celebrate our nation’s automotive heritage. By taking part in these events around the country, these automotive enthusiasts and related businesses ensured that their passion was honored and recognized.

The U.S. Senate Finance Committee leadership intends to start with a blank slate as they draft legislation to reform the federal tax code. Through this approach, all deductions and credits would be removed so as to reduce overall tax rates. Popular tax breaks, such as the child credit, mortgage interest deduction, research and development tax credit and charitable deductions, would only be reinserted if there is sufficient evidence that the provisions help grow the economy, make the tax code fairer or effectively promote important policy objectives. 

The House Ways and Means Committee intends to adopt the same blank-slate approach. Both committees have held hearings on the topic and are seeking public input. While there is a general desire to complete a tax overhaul by the end of 2014, many conflicts need to be resolved in order to achieve the goal. A primary question as a result is whether monies saved through reform should be used to lower tax rates or reduce the deficit.

A lifelong gearhead, Hansen is well known for television roles that have included host of “Overhaulin’,” Spike TV’s “Powerblock” and Velocity Television Network’s “Vinsetta Garage.” She is also the author of The Garage Girl's Guide to Everything You Need to Know About Your Car.

Featuring Hansen’s own ’57 Ford Thunderbird, this business-focused video may be posted and shared. A companion piece may be posted and shared by individuals and car clubs to encourage enthusiast involvement as well.
