	The province of British Columbia issued a proclamation designating July 12, 2014 as “Collector Car Appreciation Day” in the province.

Thanks to the efforts of the Specialty Vehicle Association of British Columbia (SVABC), the province of British Columbia issued a proclamation designating July 12, 2014 as “Collector Car Appreciation Day” in the province. The province also proclaimed the month of July 2014 to be Collector Car Appreciation Month.

Earlier this year, the SEMA Action Network (SAN) announced these dates to mark the fifth commemoration in what has become an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. The SAN is again working to secure a U.S. Congressional resolution to recognize the day’s significance.

Legislation that sought to allow Virginia’s antique vehicle hobbyists to install and use aftermarket exhaust systems was held over to the 2015 legislative session by the Senate Transportation Committee. The bill had already been amended and approved by the Virginia House of Delegates.

Under the amended bill, antique vehicles would remain exempt from the requirement that they have exhaust systems of a type installed as standard factory equipment, or comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment. However, they would continue to be required to be “in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual levels of noise.”

They could be budding superstars at an established company, entrepreneurs building their own brands, or innovators who have launched companies that are sure to become big names in the future. What they all will have in common are fresh ideas, enthusiasm, charisma and the drive to succeed. These are people who know what’s going on at ground level, who see opportunities that are now forming and who travel in circles that might be very different from those of our “old-school” industry leaders.
