This video shows an actual SEMA Garage Vehicle Dynamics Program test, which offers specialty-equipment manufacturers the documentation to demonstrate they have formed a reasonable basis with respect to compliance with Federal Regulation FMVSS 126.

The Emerging Trends and Technology Network (ETTN) has released a new Vehicle Technology Resource Alert in partnership with the SEMA Garage, which explains the impact of Electronic Stability Control (ESC) performance on businesses and products as well as accompanying regulatory compliance.

ESC is an active safety vehicle technology that helps drivers maintain control of their vehicles during extreme steering maneuvers by stabilizing and keeping the vehicle headed in the driver’s intended direction, even when the vehicle nears or exceeds the limits of traction. FMVSS 126 requires that all new vehicles sold in the United States since September 1, 2011, with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) rating of 10,000 lbs. or less include ESC as standard equipment, with multi-stage manufacturers and small-volume manufacturers in compliance since September 1, 2012. Aftermarket modifications must maintain ESC functionality and cannot take a vehicle out of compliance with FMVSS 126. ESC, along with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), are the gateway technologies to connected and automated driving.

More information is available on the SEMA Garage website. Download the full ESC Tech Alert.

Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD) will be celebrated this year on July 14.
CCAD

Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD) will be celebrated this year on July 14. At the request of SEMA, this holiday has been marked each year since 2010 by a U.S. Senate Resolution recognizing that the “collection and restoration of historic and classic cars is an important part of preserving the technological achievements and cultural heritage of the United States.”

As in years past, a wide range of automotive events will be held to commemorate the occasion. As this annual event continues to grow worldwide, states, provinces, counties and cities are following suit with their own recognition. SEMA encourages participation throughout the month of July to honor the classics of the past and the future.

Check out the SEMA Action Network’s (SAN) video PSA for tips on setting up your tribute and share it with your friends.

Celebrate the hobby your way!

  • Attend an official vehicle-inspired event.
  • Host your own gathering or club meeting.
  • Promote a holiday sale at your business.
  • Drive your special ride, new or old, wherever the destination.

Plan and submit your July event at no cost, locate a listing near you and more on the SAN website.

Participating organizers will be awarded a copy of the Congressional resolution for display at each registered event.
