President Trump issued a broad outline for reducing taxes on individuals and businesses that, if enacted, would represent the most sweeping changes to the federal tax code in decades. For companies, the corporate tax rate would be reduced from 35% to 20% by eliminating many current deductions and credits. The plan would create a new 25% tax rate for “pass-through” businesses (sole proprietorships, partnerships and S corporations) that currently pay taxes at the individual rate of their owners. The plan would retain the research and development tax credit, and allow immediate expensing of assets for at least five years. It would also scale back deductibility for corporate interest expenses, move to a territorial tax system and implement a one-time repatriation tax on overseas profits.

For individuals, the plan’s goal is to simplify and potentially reduce taxes by doubling the standard deduction while eliminating many credits and deductions that complicate tax preparation. The standard deduction would jump to $12,000 for individuals and $24,000 for married couples filing jointly. The number of tax brackets would be reduced from seven to three, with tax rates of 12%, 25% and 35%.  Congress would have the option of including a fourth rate for high-income taxpayers. Currently, income tax rates range from 10% to 39.6%.

Under the plan, the alternative minimum tax and estate tax would be removed, and state sales taxes would not be deductible. Action now turns to the U.S. Congress for considering the plan and drafting legislation.

New SEMA Show Event Gives Journalists Advance Preview of Vehicle Debuts

Media and exhibitors at the 2017 SEMA Show will get an advance preview of select vehicles during the Cruise In—a new feature that will take place during the SEMA Show Exhibitor Appreciation Reception on Monday, October 30, 2017.

As exhibitors unwind from booth setup and prepare for the opening day of the Show, top vehicles will roll onto a stage in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center, where builders will be on hand to share details and stories about the celebrated vehicles.

The Cruise In will begin at 4:00 p.m., following the annual Media Preview Exclusive, which takes place from 12:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m. Presented by SEMA’s Truck and Off-Road Alliance council, the Media Preview Exclusive features nearly two dozen exhibitors and caters specifically to editors and reporters.

These events, along with media credentials to the SEMA Show, are free to qualified journalists. Registration is available online at www.SEMAShow.com/register.

The “Boosted Bronco” concept is designed to emphasize power, style and efficiency.

WD-40 to Debut “Boosted Bronco” at 2017 SEMA Show

WD-40 and Vaccar are crafting the “Boosted Bronco” concept for the 2017 SEMA Show—a Ford Bronco with an updated resto-mod design that emphasizes power, style and efficiency. The 4x4 Bronco is based on the original “uncut” body (’66–’77).

With the vehicle in its early stages, specific details are limited, however, the off-road classic will be powered by Ford’s EcoBoost drivetrain, feature WD-40’s iconic color scheme, and ride on a 5-in. lift kit and 33-in. wheels. The build is based on a pre-’76 model of the Bronco. That decision was made to help ensure that the classic will more easily adhere to stricter vehicle emissions laws by state, a consideration that will also accommodate future owners of the Bronco.

Showgoers can catch the “Boosted Bronco” on display in the WD-40 booth at the SEMA Show. After the Show, the vehicle will be available for press and marketing purposes before its auction in 2018. Proceeds from the auction will benefit SEMA Cares charities.
