SEMA Show
The Priority Space Selection process provides exhibitors with the opportunity to secure the best locations for their Show displays.

Companies that submit booth space applications for the 2018 SEMA Show prior to Friday, March 30, are eligible to participate in the Priority Space Selection process. The space selection process, beginning April 30, provides exhibitors with the opportunity to secure the best locations for their Show displays.

Leading up to the selection process, each company will be contacted via email with their booth selection date and time range. The email will be sent to the person listed as the exhibitor’s primary SEMA Show contact.

About an hour prior to the time to select, exhibitors are encouraged to be prepared by viewing the 2018 Show’s online floorpan. Updated every 30 minutes, exhibitors can see as the Show begins to take shape and monitor their desired section to gain a general idea of where they want to display.

Between April 24–27, each primary contact should take time to check their email, including their “junk” folders. Companies that have not received a correspondence by April 27 or that want to change the primary Show contact listed on the application should email sales@sema.org or call 909-396-0289.

During the exhibitor’s time to pick, the SEMA Show account representative will call the primary SEMA Show contact and help locate and assign the exhibit space that best suits the company’s needs.

The 2018 SEMA Show is scheduled for Tuesday–Friday, October 30–November 2, in Las Vegas. There’s still time to participate in the Priority Space Selection Process. Secure booth space for 2018 now by visiting www.SEMAShow.com/buyabooth.

Buick

This is the new Buick Encore, caught testing for the first time in Metro Detroit.

The Encore just received revisions last year, but it’s scheduled to be completely new in 2019. It will ride on an updated platform shared with the likes of the Chevrolet Bolt, and will also spawn a Chevrolet Trax variant. Expect the new Encore to be larger both inside and out, addressing a criticism of the current model. Updated Buick styling will also be added.

The Encore will continue offering a range of small-displacement turbocharged four-cylinder engines, although horsepower will likely rise. A more powerful variant may be offered to better compete with the likes of the BMW X1 and Volvo XC40, which offer far more than 200 hp from their engines.

The new Encore could show up in 2019 for the ’20 model year.

Kia

This is a mule for the U.S.-spec KIA Sorento Diesel, caught while testing near Ann Arbor, Michigan.

KIA said in January it would sell a diesel-powered version of the revised Sorento in the United States starting in 2019, a first for the automaker. This mule testing on United States soil is likely awaiting final tuning and an emissions certificate.

The Sorento should be powered by the same 2.2L turbodiesel four-cylinder found in the recently debuted Hyundai Santa Fe. In the Santa Fe, that engine is good for 200 hp and 320 lb.-ft. of torque. The Sorento is likely to be in a small class when it gets here. Mazda has promised a CX-5 diesel, but has been tight lipped about when it will go on sale, and it’s also a class smaller. Jaguar Land Rover offer a number of turbodiesel models, but they’re all much more expensive than the Sorento.

In any case, expect to see a Sorento Diesel in the United States early next year.
