The MPMC Media Trade Conference will take place January 20–22, 2015, at the Embassy Suites Orange County Airport North in Santa Ana, California.
  

Personalized schedules are being created for the nearly 200 journalists and reporters who have signed up to participate in the 2015 MPMC Media Trade Conference. The final schedules for the event, taking place January 20–22, in Santa Ana, California, will be sent out by January 6 to all those who have already registered.

Editors and journalists interested in attending the event may still sign up at www.sema.org/mtcreg. The event includes more than 100 of today’s leading performance parts producers, offering hundreds of appointments for media to fill.

Members of the media who have questions are invited to contact Della Domingo at dellad@sema.org. Manufacturers: Direct questions to Jim Skelly at jimsk@sema.org.

Shelby American had a presence at the High Performance and Custom Equipment Trade Show at Dodger Stadium in 1967, the event that would go on to become the SEMA Show. It’s interesting to see what’s in the Shelby booth—as well as what’s not. Shelby’s iconic Cobra roadster and the GT350 Mustang are represented only by photos on the booth’s back wall. Note, too, the “wanted” poster on the easel soliciting for manufacturer’s representatives to handle Shelby’s parts and equipment.

Ford Motor Co. has announced its project-vehicle program for 2015. 

2015 Ford Project Vehicle Program

Proposal Submission Deadline: March 2, 2015
Award Recipient Notification Date: by May 1, 2015

All project vehicle requests must be submitted in two parts and meet the following Ford Aftermarket Project Vehicle Program criteria:

Part 1

E-mail a one-page project summary—must be received by February 20, 2015. Include bullet points for:

  • Vehicle/theme
  • Vehicle modifications
  • New product development
  • Promotional plan
  • Vehicle display location at the 2015 SEMA Show

Part 2

Mail a detailed project proposal—must be received by March 2, 2015. Include details supporting the one-page project summary on company letterhead, a color rendering and past project vehicle examples.

Ford Aftermarket Project Vehicle Program Criteria

Aftermarket companies requesting project vehicles should be:

  • A manufacturer or designer/restyler dedicated to supporting new product development.
  • Financially capable and willing to spend promotional dollars.
  • Actively promoting the vehicle with their product(s) through an established marketing plan.
  • A current SEMA member.

Aftermarket companies receiving project vehicles must:

  • Feature the vehicle in a booth at the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
  • Register and keep the vehicle in your company name during the entire contract period.
  • Purchase and maintain $3 million in general liability, $3 million in automotive liability, $1 million in employer liability and demonstrate worker's compensation coverage. An umbrella policy may be used to achieve coverage limits.
  • Commit to feature the vehicle with the Ford logo intact and visible.
  • Order a California-certified vehicle if you intend to register or use the vehicle primarily in California or any other state that has adopted California emissions standards. Failure to do so may subject you to a state fine.
  • Make vehicles available to Ford or its dealers for display, at the owner's discretion.
  • Submit written quarterly status reports for a period of 18 months, as specified in the contract, stating:

1. Product development
2. Modifications to the vehicle
3. Events (including dates, location and type of event)
4. Media exposure (originals or color copies)
5. Company advertising featuring the vehicle
6. Additional exposure
7. A copy of your current vehicle registration
8. E-mail, disc or fax reports will not be accepted

Information on the specific vehicles Ford plans to emphasize at the 2015 SEMA Show will follow in January. Details will be provided to allow you to research those products and find high-resolution images for renderings.

Businesses with a significant demographic skewed toward “hipper,” generally younger tech users—people who like to stay on the edge of what’s happening digitally—should take a serious look at QR code marketing.

Most of us have come across a QR (quick reach) code in our travels. It’s that framed square of hieroglyphic-like symbols that we flip to in a magazine, which triggers our smartphones to reveal a company website when scanned. Or it’s on that advertisement we see at an airport or a train station that, when scanned, conjures up an electronic coupon on our tablets that can be used at a coffee shop, often only steps away.
