The full Maryland House of Delegates approved amended house legislation to require the issuance of only a single license plate for historic vehicles and street rods.

Amended House legislation to require the issuance of only a single license plate for historic vehicles and street rods was approved by the full Maryland House of Delegates. The bill now moves to the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee for consideration. Under the amendment, the single-plate option would be available only to owners of historic vehicles that are 60 years old and older. The bill no longer affords this option to street rods or later-model historic cars.

The province of British Columbia has again issued a proclamation designating July 11, 2015, as “Collector Car Appreciation Day” in the province.

Thanks to the efforts of the Specialty Vehicle Association of British Columbia (SVABC), the province of British Columbia has again issued a proclamation designating July 11, 2015, as “Collector Car Appreciation Day” in the province.

The province also proclaimed the month of July 2015 to be Collector Car Appreciation Month. Earlier this year, SEMA announced these dates to mark the sixth commemoration in what has become an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. SEMA is again working to secure a U.S. Congressional resolution to recognize the day’s significance.

Legislation to allow the State Highway Commission to implement a pilot program that charged drivers based on vehicle miles traveled was withdrawn by the bill’s sponsor after a public outcry.

Legislation to allow the State Highway Commission to implement a pilot program that charged drivers based on vehicle miles traveled was withdrawn by the bill’s sponsor after a public outcry. Under the measure, program participants would have been taxed 1.5 cents per each mile the subject vehicle traveled on Arkansas roadways. The bill could have created privacy concerns and penalized national efforts to create a more fuel-efficient vehicle fleet by taxing drivers based on vehicle mileage. The bill also would have imposed its harshest penalties on owners who are required to rely on their vehicles to drive long distances to and from places of employment.
