SEMA News, SEMA Show, New Product Promotion
One of the best opportunities for exhibitors to promote 2013 SEMA Show product debuts is to submit press release materials to SEMA's publication department.
One of SEMA's pre-Show publications is the Association's monthly magazine—SEMA News. Published year-round, including the months leading up to the Show, it's an excellent resource for Show attendees. In fact, the October issue will focus specifically on new products to be unveiled at the 2013 SEMA Show.

To be included, submit press releases and related materials to the SEMA Show Online Media Center. Be sure to include the SEMA Show exhibit booth number, company website and phone number with the submission. The deadline to send materials for consideration is August 19. View last year's New Products Showcase Preview for an idea about format, layout and word count.

For any questions about pre-Show coverage in SEMA News, please contact Carr Winn at carrw@sema.org.

Submission Policy: All submissions will be featured in pre-Show publications based on the order in which they were received on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event that the publications department receives more submissions than it can accommodate, the unpublished items will be placed on a waiting list and then included when and if additional space becomes available.

The Exhibitor Summit helps prepare exhibitors for the Show and provides them with strategies for developing a Show budget and using the Exhibitor Services Manual.
As exhibit space reaches capacity at the Las Vegas Convention Center, SEMA Show organizers are focused on educating exhibitors and buyers on how to get the most out of the annual event taking place Tuesday–Friday, November 5–8, 2013, in Las Vegas.

Exhibit space is currently 12% higher than this time last year, making the 2013 SEMA Show on track to include more than 2,400 exhibiting companies—the highest in the SEMA Show’s 47-year history. As a result, Show organizers are shifting away from a sales strategy, and focusing instead on helping exhibitors and buyers connect with one another during the event.

“The trend over the last few years has been one of increased industry optimism,” said Peter MacGillivray, SEMA vice president of communications and events. “More than 130,000 industry professionals typically attend the SEMA Show, making it the largest annual gathering of small businesses in the United States. With a higher number of exhibitors at the upcoming Show, we’re working closer than ever with all Showgoers so that they have a successful event.”

Manufacturers and buyers come to the SEMA Show to do business. While the association regularly communicates to both exhibitors and buyers how to take advantage of the programs available to them, organizers are accelerating and heightening the programs, both in terms of quantity and quality. Some of programs include:
  • Three-Part Exhibitor Webinar: While the organizers conducted webinars in previous years to educate exhibitors on topics, such as setting up a booth, budgeting for a trade show and identifying buyers at the event, Show staff expanded on the format by offering a three-part webinar this year. The series allows exhibitors to obtain more details and get practical solutions that could be implemented immediately. Details: www.sema.org/webinar.
  • New Buyer-Focused Webinar: For the first time, a targeted webinar is being held to help buyers at the SEMA Show. Participants will learn how to navigate the event, how to connect with relevant exhibitors and more. Details: www.sema.org/webinar.
  • Buyer Articles: Since May, weekly articles targeted to buyers have been included in SEMA eNews—the association’s weekly electronic newsletter. Recognizing that more than 25% of the 60,000 buyers who attend the SEMA Show each year have never been to the Show before, the articles are written primarily for first-time buyers. Past articles provided tips for navigating the convention center and offered insight on how to utilize the free shuttle service.
  • Exhibitor Summit: The SEMA Show Exhibitor Summit has been held annually for nearly five years. The event provided exhibitors with strategies for developing a Show budget and using the Exhibitor Services Manual. To help all exhibitors, the sessions were all recorded and available to them on the SEMA Show website.

Builders Race

For the fourth consecutive year, Derek White from Street Visions won the Builders Race. This year's car was a John Menzler tribute—a hi-boy-style coupe.

“Trim Parts was pleased to participate in the 2013 SEMA Pinewood Drag Races, and we were fortunate to come away with an overall win, including a first and second place in Unlimited, and a first place in Modified,” said Mitch Williams. “We built a new car this year, which was a complete unknown, but it worked and ran a time of 2.90 compared to our second-place car at 2.91. The second-place car was a previous three-time overall winner of the SEMA Pinewood Drag Races and had never lost. Both of these cars are now recognized as the fastest Pinewood Drag Race cars in North America and possibly the world. We hope other SEMA members will join this event as a way to showcase their engineering and creative capabilities and support very worthy causes at the same time. We believe very strongly that this SEMA event is making a difference in the lives of young people through these great charities and we are honored to be a part of it.”

After the races, a reception at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel & Conference Center in Pomona launched the evening’s Installation Banquet & Gala. Emcee Dave McClelland hosted the ceremonies honoring SEMA Hall of Fame inductees and incoming and outgoing Board members. Chris Kersting, SEMA president and CEO; Luanne Brown, SEMA Cares Commitee chairman; Paul "Scooter" Brothers, immediate past chairman of the Board; and Nate Shelton, chairman, provided the opening remarks and welcomed everyone to the 2013 event.

Later in the evening, outgoing Board members, Greg Adler, Transamerican Auto Parts; Joe Ayres, Bedslide/Takit Inc.; Jim Chick, Bestop Inc.; Donnie Eatherly, P&E Distributors; Dan Gresham, secretary/treasurer; Myles Kovacs, DUB Publishing Inc.; Tim Martin, K&N Engineering; Rick Rollins, immediate past chairman; Mike Spagnola, formerly with Street Scene Equipment; Van Woodell, Weathers Auto Supply; and Jeep Worthan, Auto Meter, were honored and thanked for their substantial contributions to the industry.

The newly elected members to the SEMA Board of Directors include Chairman-Elect Doug Evans, Source Interlink Media; Jeff Bates, Bob Cook Sales; Kyle Fickler, Weld Racing; and Tim Watts, Superlift Suspension.
