The 2015 Mothers Shine Award was presented to Tim and Cici Spencer of Birmingham, Alabama, for their ’69 Ford Mustang 2+2 Fastback. The Mothers Shine Award celebrates the finest examples of SEMA Show vehicles on display and is considered a coveted and prestigious achievement within the car builder community.
Jonathan Goolsby and the build team at Goolsby Customs in Bessemer, Alabama, completed the build, which took two years to execute.
The Shine Award winner is selected by a panel of seasoned builders, paint specialists, journalists and previous Shine Award recipients. Judging is based on overall appearance, fit and finish, attention to detail, integration of custom and stock elements, creative vision and execution of concept.
Aftermarket industry veteran and Shine Award judge, John Naderi returned to host the ceremony this year, which was held at the Mothers Polish booth. The Mustang was on display throughout the week at the combined Automotive Restoration Market Organization and Hot Rod Industry Alliance booth during the 2015 SEMA Show.
In addition to the Shine Award, this Fastback also won a Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Achievement in Design as part of the Ford Corporate Design Awards as well as a top three finish in the Glasurit Best Paint Awards.

An Assembly Joint Resolution (AJR 79) has been introduced in Wisconsin to annually designate the second Friday in July as Collector Vehicle Appreciation Day in the state. Six years ago, in an effort to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society, SEMA announced the second Friday in July as an annual commemoration of collector vehicles.
The next Collector Car Appreciation Day will be celebrated July 8, 2016. As it has in years past, SEMA is again working to secure a U.S. Senate resolution to recognize the day’s significance. In the previous six years, thousands of Americans have gathered at car cruises, parades and other events to celebrate our nation’s automotive heritage. By taking part in these events around the country, these automotive enthusiasts and related businesses have ensured that their passion was honored and recognized.
