The Nebraska State Legislature approved legislation to provide for the issuance (for an annual $100 fee) of a single license plate for passenger cars which were not originally equipped with a bracket on the front of the vehicle to display a plate.

Legislation to provide for the issuance (for an annual $100 fee) of a single license plate for passenger cars which were not originally equipped with a bracket on the front of the vehicle to display a plate was approved by the Nebraska State Legislature. The bill also allows special-interest vehicles that use the special-interest vehicle license plate to run a single plate. The bill will now be sent to Governor Pete Ricketts for his signature and enactment into law. Special-interest motor vehicle means a motor vehicle of any age which is being collected, preserved, restored or maintained by the owner as a leisure pursuit and not used for general transportation of persons or cargo.

Matt Cordato (right) from the SEMA Garage explains to a SEMA member how 3D printing can increase efficiency and productivity.

The U.S. House Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee held a hearing on how three-dimensional (3D) printing is transforming the process of producing parts and tools. SEMA and the specialty automotive industry have embraced 3D printing, which is dramatically increasing efficiency and productivity. In his opening statement, Chairman Michael Burgess (R-TX) mentioned how the SEMA Garage is providing its members with access to 3D printing, including by Fort Worth-based Painless Performance.

SEMA submitted a statement on how 3D printing represents the future for manufacturing specialty auto parts, prototypes and tools. For example, the SEMA Garage is helping members bring products to market faster and at a fraction of what it would cost elsewhere. Encompassing 15,000 sq.-ft., the SEMA Garage meets industry demand for a user-friendly resource for testing products to current Clean Air Act emissions standards. The facility also serves as a one-stop shop for product development. Services offered include custom 3D scanning, rapid prototyping via 3D printing, a product installation center, photo studios and a product presentation room. Additionally, in partnership with the automakers, companies have access to technical information and measurements allowing 3D printed specialty parts to fit perfectly on the host vehicle.

Professional car builders are invited to participate in the Pro Builder Face-Off Invitational during the Street Machine & Muscle Car Nationals, March 12–13, 2016, at the Fairplex in Pomona, California, where builders from across the country will showcase their cars to compete for cash awards and the honor of being crowned Pro Builder of the Year.

The third-annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Street Machine & Muscle Car Nationals, March 12–13, at the Fairplex in Pomona, California, will feature a collection of high-performance musclecars, pro-touring cars and street machines from across Southern California. For the third straight year, the Fairplex will donate its net proceeds from the event to the Alex Xydias Center (AXC) for Automotive Arts.

The Pro Builder Face-Off Invitational, a new component to this year’s main event, will feature professional car builders from across the country showcasing their cars and competing for cash and the honor of being named Pro Builder of the Year.

“We [Fairplex] decided from day one to donate our net proceeds from this event to AXC, said Dale Coleman, vice president, chief revenue officer at the Fairplex. “Over the first two years, we have donated more than $80,000. The bigger we make the event, the more we can donate to the charity. This is why we are adding the Pro Builder component.”
