The SEMA Data Co-op (SDC) is looking to hire a membership manager to recruit, manage and maintain member relationships, in addition to assisting the director of membership with marketing matters for event preparation and other SDC promotions.

Responsibilities will include:

• Actively participating in SDC membership recruitment, assisting members during on-boarding and being an important point-of-contact for member inquiries.  

• Actively participating in membership outreach efforts, including but not limited to the following:
  
  1. Following up of leads from every source, including website and referrals.
  2. Proactive prospecting based on industry knowledge, networking and SEMA member lists.
  3. Consistent follow-up on progress and satisfaction of members.

• Attending industry events (e.g., SEMA Show, PWA, PRI, etc.) where recruitment and retention is a primary focus.

• Actively participating in SDC member benefits, including but not limited to the following:
  
  1. Coordination with the Help Desk on any member service issues.
  2. Compilation and communication of member feedback to the Help Desk.
  3. Implementing any new SDC benefits or programs.

• Assisting with the development of new content related to member benefits for any available venue, including:
  
  1. www.SEMADataCoop.org.
  2. SEMA News.
  3. SEMA eNews.
  4. Program-related e-mail communications.

• Participating in interaction with SEMA councils, committees and networks to educate and enable effective SDC communications.

• Other duties as assigned by the director of membership or senior management team of the SDC.

Primary Skills and Requirements:

• Be an enthusiastic ambassador of the SDC to members and prospects.
• Have effective supervisory and leadership skills.
• Have strong sales and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and association management software.
• Be a skilled communicator with strong organizational and facilitation skills both on the phone and face to face.
• A willingness to learn new software programs.
• A four-year college degree is required.
• Project management experience is preferred.

This position will be located in SEMA's Diamond Bar, California, office, and will report to the director of membership of the SEMA Data Co-op. The candidate will interact with SEMA staff in all departments, the Help Desk and other outsourced staff. Kyle Hart Delivers a Podium Performance and First Career Win in Pro Lite at Reno
Kyle Hart and his ReadyLift Off Road Suspension/Kolpin Dodge Pro Lite team are celebrating this week with his first career win in this division. In Round 6 of the Pro Lite Division, Hart finished the qualifier in second between RJ Anderson and Brian Deegan. During the night race on lap 25, Hart took the lead and placed Jimmy Fishback and Sheldon Creed into second and third respectively. The next stop on the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series will be Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, for rounds 7 and 8, June 21–22.

NMCA WEST Races at Pomona Raceway
The third-annual Nitto Tire NMCA WEST Street Car Nationals, held last month at the Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California, included some of the best stars from all over the country. Susan Roush McClenaghan qualified second in the Currie Enterprises Open Comp class in her propane-powered ’10 Mustang. Donnie Bowles raced in Open Comp and the Granatelli Motor Sports Mustang Madness class, where he took home a Wally by beating Greg Dreher in the finals. Scott Oksas took the top qualifying spot in Garrett Turbochargers Pro Mod with John Mihovetz right behind him. The top-five qualifiers reached more than 220 mph at the famed quarter-mile. Andrew Berry claimed the weekend's bragging rights and the Aerospace Components NHRA Unleashed Wally after a battle against Mihovetz in the final round. Tommy Turner and the Turner Racing Team won the Top Sportsman class at the 34th Annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals, held May 16–18, at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia. Turner and crew had switched to Holley's Dominator EFI only weeks before the event, and made a visit to Holley's R&D facility to fine tune the normally aspirated 904cid Steve Schmidt Racing engine, which, in the Turner Racing Pontiac GXP, makes more than 1,800 hp using the Holley Dominator EFI system. The Holley Dominator EFI Vehicle Management System works with all engine applications, from street to unlimited high–end racing. The system has nearly unlimited capabilities to control normally-aspirated single or dual throttle body applications and engines with any supercharged, turbo, nitrous and water-methanol power adders. The Dominator EFI also controls GM transmission functions, drive by wire throttle bodies and features inputs for data acquisition and more.

Tony Lombardi’s supercharged ’30 Model A Ford from Niles, Ohio, won the Goodguys 2014 Tank’s Hot Rod of the Year award last weekend at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The criteria is unique in that it’s the only major Goodguys Top 12 award which requires participants to drive on a 100-mile reliability run as well as an 1/8th-mile blast down the dragstrip. Lombardi’s A-Bone, built by Hilton’s Hot Rods, blasted down Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis with an elapsed time of 9.316 seconds—the third-fastest ET of the day.

Painted PPG Manderin Maroon with black steel wheels, ’40 Ford hubcaps, finned drums and a healthy dropped axle rake, the coupe plays on the heartstrings of traditional hot-rod aficionados. The 371cid blown Oldsmobile Rocket 88 engine, built in-house by Lombardi’s Ross Racing engines, features a Dyer’s 4-71 blower atop a Cragar intake with 94-series carbs. A Tremec T-5 transmission and Winter’s quick-change rear end ensure a sporty drive and spirited stop light sprints. The black leather interior was stitched by Mike Sholly. The cabin is comfortable, yet all business with a custom bench seat. The dash (out of a Pierce Arrow) houses the Stewart Warner gauges. At the ready is a Hurst shifter and Schroeder steering wheel.

For winning the Hot Rod of the Year award, Lombardi will be one of the Top 12 featured cars of the Goodguys event season. He’ll receive a custom toolbox from Snap-on and travel accommodations to the season-ending Goodguys 17th Southwest Nationals, November 14–16, at Westworld, in Scottsdale, Arizona. The top five finalists for the Goodguys 2014 Tank’s Hot Rod of the Year award included William Shores (’32 Ford), Tony Lombardi (’30 Ford), Bruce Vath (’36 Ford), Kevin Roberts (’32 Ford), and Garey Roberts (’32 Ford).

Olsbergs MSE Fords Fast at X Games Tight Racing in Austin for Second Round of Red Bull Global Rallycross
The second round of Red Bull Global Rallycross joined X Games in Austin, Texas, for two days of action on a tight, half-mile dirt and tarmac course built into the Circuit of the Americas. Olsbergs MSE drivers Patrik Sandell and Joni Wiman both qualified at the top of a competitive 19-car field. Sandell, in the Kobalt Tools Olsbergs MSE Ford Fiesta ST, finished at the front of every qualifying match and earned a position on the front row of the Final where he was issued a penalty that knocked him out of podium contention. Wiman, in the Red Bull/Bluebeam Olsbergs MSE Ford Fiesta ST, was unable to land a spot in the six-car Final.

In addition to the Supercars competition, a full roster of GRC Lites joined the series last weekend for the first race of the season. Red Bull/Olsbergs MSE GRC Lites driver Mitchell DeJong earned X Games gold, while teammate Kevin Eriksson scored the silver medal in his Olsbergs MSE GRC Lites car. The GRC Lites are purpose-built 310-hp rallycross racers designed and built by Olsbergs MSE and introduced to GRC in 2013 as a development series for the sport of rallycross.

The team will next appear in competition with World RX drivers Andreas Bakkerud and Reinis Nitiss at World RX of Norway in Hell, Norway, June 14–15. Olsbergs MSE's Red Bull Global Rallycross drivers are back in action for the Washington, D.C., championship stop June 21–22.

Pulstar Performance Expert Al Unser Jr. Wins Again at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Pulstar Pulse Plugs Performance expert Al Unser Jr. returned to the winner’s circle at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway earlier this week in the Charity Indy Legends Pro-Am Race. Unser Jr. and his amateur partner Peter Klutt took the top prize on the track’s road course in the marquee event of the three-day inaugural SVRA Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational. Unser Jr., a two-time winner of the Indianapolis 500, participated in the 45-minute race that paired former Indy 500 drivers with amateurs to race vintage, ’63–’72 Chevrolet Camaros, Chevrolet Corvettes and Ford Mustangs. Unser and Klutt, president of Legendary Motorcar Co. and a former TV show host, drove Klutt’s ’69 Corvette to the win. Unser was one of 24 Indy 500 veterans in the field that included drivers Eliseo Salazar (who finished second with Gary Moore), Willy T. Ribbs (third-place winner with Ed Sevadjian), Buddy Lazier, Scott Goodyear, Mark Dismore, Robby Unser and Lyn St. James.

The SEMA Data Co-op (SDC) has enhanced its product data management tools to make it easier and faster for auto accessory suppliers to process their files. The new tools, which were introduced last month, will reduce the time it takes to load and validate large files from days to hours.
 
"We are all very excited about the launch of this important feature," said Bob Castle, SDC vice president of eBusiness and I.T. "It provides much-needed capability to brands with very high SKU counts, sometimes exceeding 1 million records. Now suppliers can easily stage their large files for loading without tedious prep work, and can enjoy the very efficient automation we have built into our PIMS system."  
 
The SDC’s full-featured solution includes comprehensive data validation tools, unlimited secure storage and an easy-to-use web interface for supplier members to manage their product data. Additionally, data receivers can get exports formatted specifically to their requirements, and can manage delivery of data through a versatile scheduling tool.
 
Since launching in 2013, the SDC has grown to include more than 285 industry brands and 375 data receivers.
 
“The SDC is designed to be very simple to use,” said Castle. “Because members do not need to have any prior data management experience and there are no setup charges, joining the co-op is easy and affordable. In fact, no fees are collected until the on-boarding process is completed and data is being exported to receivers.”

Truck Accessories Group Names Jim Blayne Director of Fleet Sales

	Jim Blayne was named director of fleet sales for the Truck Accessories Group.

Truck Accessories Group (TAG) has added Jim Blayne to its staff as director of fleet sales for the company’s Commercial Division. Blayne will deliver the vision and the experience to help TAG’s commercial and fleet customers meet their exacting budget and transportation needs. Blayne joins TAG with more than 22 years of industry experience, including senior management positions at A.R.E. Accessories in Ohio. He will establish the company’s Commercial Division’s overall strategy and oversee all aspects of its sales efforts.

“Jim’s addition to the Commercial Division team, along with his unique experience, impeccable integrity and drive, will help the company establish important relationships with new and existing commercial customers throughout North America,” said Kevin Page, vice president of sales and marketing for LEER. “We now have the Commercial team in place to deliver exceptional value and service to our fleet customers.”

The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS 126) test was performed to show that the installation of a Pro Comp 6-in. suspension system, Pro Comp wheels and 35-in. Pro Comp tires on a ’14 Ram 1500 would not compromise the performance and effectiveness of the vehicle’s Electronic Stability Control system.

Pro Comp Passes Electronic Stability Control Test With ’14 Ram 1500 6-in. Suspension System

Pro Comp has announced that it has tested and successfully passed the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS 126) test. This highly specialized test was performed to show that the installation of a Pro Comp 6-in. suspension system, Pro Comp wheels and 35-in. Pro Comp tires on a ’14 Ram 1500 would not compromise the performance and effectiveness of the vehicle’s Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system.

The Ram was fitted with an array of sensors and test equipment to monitor all aspects of the vehicle's movement and dynamics, including a robotically operated steering wheel to assure precise and accurate tests. On the closed test course, the Pro Comp-equipped vehicle was accelerated to 50 mph, at which point the test operator initiated the test and let the computer take over. The robotically controlled wheel spins abruptly; both left and right, up to 300 degrees in less than half a second and then returns back to dead center, causing the truck to change direction and begin to slide. This event caused the Ram’s ESC system to activate and regain control. When the data was analyzed, it clearly showed that the Pro Comp products did not interfere with the performance of the ESC systems.

Motovicity Adds PLX Products to Lineup

Motovicity Distribution announced the addition of PLX Devices to its line of performance aftermarket products. McKeel Hagerty Honored by LeMay

	McKeel Hagerty, president and CEO of Hagerty, received the “Nicola Bulgari Award” from LeMay – America’s Car Museum during its second Wheels & Heels Annual Gala.

LeMay – America’s Car Museum (ACM) presented its “Nicola Bulgari Award” to McKeel Hagerty, president and CEO of Hagerty, which offers insurance and valuation tools for classic vehicles. The ceremony was conducted Saturday evening at the Wheels & Heels Annual Gala, celebrating the second-year anniversary of the Tacoma, Washington-based museum. Named after jewelry magnate and classic car collector Nicola Bulgari, the award is presented annually to individuals who make outstanding contributions to preserve America’s automotive heritage through education, car restoration and collecting classic cars.

Hagerty took over the family business in 1995 and has grown the company from 30 employees to more than 500. He created the Collectors Foundation, which has awarded $2.75 million in scholarships and grants to prepare young adults for careers in automotive preservation and restoration. It was renamed the Hagerty Education Program after partnering with America’s Car Museum in January 2014, and Hagerty has committed another $1.75 million to support collector vehicle education.

CRP Recognized for Electronic Data Excellence

CRP Automotive was presented with the Best-in-Class NCMA President’s Award for Electronic Data Excellence for 2013–2014, at the most recent National Catalog Managers Association Knowledge Exchange in Chandler, Arizona. CRP Automotive was nominated for this prestigious award by Epicor, a leading retail software manufacturer.

The award announcement was made by Daniel Schildge, president of CRP Industries, who noted, “It’s an honor to be recognized by both Epicor and the NCMA for our cataloging efforts. This award validates the process improvements that we have enacted within our cataloging activities and is a tribute to the dedication and hard work of our entire catalog team.”

Advanstar Promotes Pete Meier to Director of Training

Pete Meier was promoted to director of training for the Advanstar Automotive Group.

The Advanstar Automotive Group has promoted Pete Meier to director of training. Meier joined Advanstar in September 2010 as technical editor after spending more than 35 years as an automotive technician. In his new role, Meier will oversee the training program for Automechanika Chicago in 2015 and the development of other training initiatives within Advanstar Automotive Group, including webinars and video training projects. He will continue in his role as Advanstar Automotive Group technical editor.

During his time at Advanstar Automotive Group, Meier helped launch the “The Trainer” video series and the Motor Age YouTube channel so more technicians would have access to technical training. In addition to creating monthly videos to address a variety of technical topics, Meier helped establish a partnership with Technicians Service Training (TST) to host live, interactive webinars for Motor Age readers at no charge.

CURT Manufacturing Acquires Aries Automotive

Landon List Joins ReadyLIFT Suspension Inc. as New Western Regional Sales Manager

ReadyLIFT Suspension Inc. has announced that Landon List has joined the company to further strengthen and grow the already expanding sales efforts of ReadyLIFT's street and off-road product lines. List had previously spent 2.5 years with Transamerican Wholesale/4 Wheel Parts and before that, 2.5 years with VIAIR. While at Transamerican/4 Wheel Parts, he was responsible for merchandising suspension lines, and was a key manager in building relationships with vendors. As an off-road enthusiast, List has been involved with UTV racing and Jeepspeed racing, and enjoys trail riding in his Jeep. 	Mark A. Smith

Mark A. Smith, 87, off-road icon and founder of Georgetown, California-based Jeep Jamboree USA, passed away June 8. Smith was an early pioneer of the sport of "Jeeping" in 1953, and in an effort to boost the local economy, he helped organize the first-ever Jeep trip on the Rubicon Trail in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In 1954, Willys Motor—the manufacturer of Jeep vehicles—began sponsoring the off-road adventure.

Smith was a Jeep brand consultant and conducted intensive training for U.S. Army Special Forces and other agencies. In 1982, he founded Jeep Jamboree USA, which offers more than 30 annual off-road excursions across the country exclusively for Jeep owners.

His spirit of adventure led him to create and conquer the longest overland 4WD journey in history—the 1978–79 Expedición de Las Américas—a 20,000-mile, 120-day journey from the bottom of South America to the top of North America. His team was the first non-military group to achieve a vehicular crossing of the notoriously rugged Darién Gap between Panama and Colombia. Smith also headed the 1987 Camel Trophy in Madagascar.

In 1980, Smith was inducted into the Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame, and in 1986, the United Four Wheel Drive Association named him “Four Wheeler of the Decade.” In 1989, Smith was inducted as a member of the Explorer’s Club of New York.

Smith was an inspiration to many and believed, "If you have a dream, make sure you pursue it." He is survived by his wife Irene; his children Robert, Patti, Greg and Jill; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
