FLN Member Spotlight Kristi Barker

TheSEMA Future Leaders Network (FLN) has named Kristi Barker, trade marketing specialist at Rhino-Rack, MAXTRAX and TRED, as the network's newest spotlight member.

Get to know Barker in her interview with SEMA News below.

SEMA News: What is the best advice you have ever received?

Kristi Barker: "Roadblocks are just challenges meant to be overcome, not to knock you down."

This advice has helped me both professionally and personally because I view every obstacle I face as an opportunity to learn, grow and become an even stronger individual. It encourages me to keep pushing forward with determination and positivity and see that with each hurdle I conquer, I develop the resilience and skills needed to make a real impact.

SN: What keeps you in the industry?

KB: What keeps me in the industry is the combination of ever-changing, fast-growing, innovative technology, and the incredible atmosphere filled with like-minded people who share the same passion. The constant evolution and breakthroughs in technology keep me excited and motivated, always eager to learn and grow alongside the advancements. Moreover, being surrounded by a community of individuals who are equally passionate about the industry creates a sense of connection and camaraderie that is truly inspiring. It's the perfect blend of innovation and collaboration that fuels my enthusiasm and drives me to stay committed to this dynamic and fulfilling industry.

SN: Where can you be found on a Saturday?

KB: On a Saturday, you will likely find me embracing the great outdoors in Colorado's breathtaking landscapes. Whether I'm camping under the clear blue sky, casting a line into the water or soaking up the warm sun rays during a hike along the never-ending trails, my weekends are all about enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.

SN: How do you prepare for an important meeting?

KB: When preparing for an important meeting, I make sure to define the key takeaways that I want the listeners to remember. By identifying the main points I want to convey, I ensure that the meeting stays focused and on track. Understanding the purpose of the meeting also helps me tailor my information effectively, organizing it based on what the specific audience needs to know or discuss. I will then predetermine any follow-up tasks to give clear direction and accountability post-meeting.

Finally--and arguably most importantly--I review the material from a first-time viewer's perspective to ensure clarity and coherence. This method of preparation helps me approach the meeting with confidence and ensures that I make the most out of the valuable time with my audience.

SN: If you could go to lunch with one industry leader, living or dead, who would it be?

KB: I would love to have lunch with Mary Barra as she is a truly inspiring leader who has conquered numerous roadblocks in her career to successfully lead a prominent corporation like General Motors. Sitting down with her would provide a valuable opportunity to gain insights into her journey and how she overcame challenges on her path to success. Mary's work ethic and drive serve as a testament to the idea that hard work and determination can lead to remarkable achievements. Having the chance to hear firsthand about her experiences would undoubtedly be enlightening and motivating!

Porsche 718 Cayman EV Spotted for the First Time
Porsche Cayman EV

The Porsche 718 series, which includes the Boxster and Cayman, has long been celebrated for its handling, lightweight construction and driving dynamics. The '26 Porsche 718 electric vehicle (EV) aims to uphold this legacy while embracing the advantages of electric powertrains. While the open-top 718 Boxster has been photographed in prototype guise various times since 2023, these are the first shots of its tin-topped stable mate, the 718 Cayman.

The design of the '26 Porsche 718 EV appears to reflect modern interpretations of the classic 718 silhouettes, according to the newly captured images. Expect to see sleek lines, a low stance and an aerodynamic profile that enhances efficiency and performance. While the overall shapes may remain familiar, the EVs will incorporate unique design elements that distinguish them from their gasoline-powered predecessors, such as a closed-off front grille and distinctive lighting signatures, insiders said.

Porsche Cayman EV

At the heart of the '26 Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman will be a state-of-the-art electric powertrain. While specific details are still under wraps, industry insiders anticipate a dual-motor setup that will provide all-wheel drive and instantaneous torque delivery. This configuration could enable the Boxster and Cayman to achieve 0-60 mph times in the realm of 3 seconds or less.

Porsche is also expected to utilize advanced battery packs that offer a balance of high energy density and lightweight construction, according to sources, ensuring that the vehicle remains agile and responsive. Additionally, fast-charging capabilities will likely be a priority.

Inside the '26 Porsche 718, the cabin will likely feature high-quality materials, an ergonomic design and a driver-focused layout. A digital cockpit with a large infotainment display will provide access to a range of connectivity features, navigation and performance data.

Audi RS5 Spied in Germany

As proven by recent spy shots from Germany, the upcoming '26 Audi RS5 will feature a bold and aggressive design that reflects its performance pedigree.

Building on the sleek lines and muscular stance of its predecessors, the new RS5 is expected to incorporate Audi's latest design language, characterized by sharp angles, a prominent Singleframe grille and aerodynamic enhancements that improve both aesthetics and functionality. Audi is also expected to use of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum, sources said, and introduced dynamic lighting elements, including OLED technology for the taillights, and adaptive headlights.

While details remain under wraps, speculation suggests that the new model may feature a hybrid powertrain, combining a high-output V6 engine with an electric motor. The RS5 is also expected to retain its Quattro all-wheel-drive system, ensuring optimal traction and handling in various driving conditions. With advancements in torque vectoring and electronic stability control, drivers can expect a more engaging and responsive driving experience, whether on the track or the open road, insiders said.

The '26 Audi RS5 will likely be equipped with the latest in automotive technology, enhancing both performance and driver experience, sources said. A fully digital cockpit, featuring a high-resolution infotainment system and customizable displays, will keep drivers connected and informed. Integration with smartphone platforms, advanced navigation systems and voice recognition will make for a seamless driving experience.

Refresh Underway for '26 Mercedes C-Class
Mercedes Benz C Class

SEMA News sources recently caught a glimpse of a model refresh that has been delayed longer than expected: the Mercedes C-Class.

Judging from the camouflage seen in the new images, modifications will be made to the front bumper, as well as the grille. There will also be changes to the inner graphics of the headlights. Like other Mercedes models, the C-Class will feature daytime running lights in the shape of the company's logo: the three-pointed star. As with other Mercedes models, the rear end is also undergoing a facelift, except that the developers are not yet working on this part, sources said, similar to the previous facelifts of the GLE and the GLS.

Mercedes Benz C Class

Mercedes-Benz will also update the interior with new materials, but there will be no major updates in design. The C-Class will feature a revised MBUX system and new safety and comfort features inherited from other models.

The German brand will not make any major changes to the mechanics either, just a simple optimization to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by attacking the ratios of the nine-speed automatic transmission. The Mercedes C-Class is expected to be unveiled in spring 2026 and go on sale in mid-summer.

First Shots: Audi Q3 Sportback
Audi Q3 Sportback

The sportier variant of Audi's compact Q3 SUV has been recently spotted on test drives near the Arctic Circle sporting complete camouflage.

Despite the camo, most of its new features and personality are clearly visible, including sharp, split-level headlights in the same style as the third-generation Q7, and the Singleframe grilled with large-drop inner mesh.

Audi Q3 Sportback

The new Audi Q3 Sportback will feature the same interior as the family SUV, with its large, slightly curved digital display occupying the dashboard, as well as a wide range of optional equipment. The German brand will offer state-of-the-art driving assistants, as well as comfort and connectivity systems.

The model will be launched in mid-2026, with a range of engines that will feature only four-cylinder blocks, both gasoline and diesel and PHEVs with up to 90 miles of range on a single charge.

AAM Group and Lippert Launch Innovative Purchase-Fulfillment Model to Drive More Business to Local Shops

The AAM Group has announced a new initiative to support local jobbers in the SEMA marketplace by launching the "Buy Online, Pickup in Store" (BOPIS) purchase-fulfillment system. BOPIS adds an option to a participating supplier's site through which online customers can place orders. The AAM Group then fulfills those orders via an AAM distribution member to each customer's nearest local shop—which receives payment for the sale and completes in-person handoff to the customer.

The arrangement allows suppliers to serve consumers who are ready to buy online without diverting sales from local shops, while jobbers benefit from the high visibility of supplier websites and get the opportunity to perform installations and build new customer relationships.

"We're thrilled to partner with Lippert and CURT to bring BOPIS to life," said AAM Vice President of Operations David Ayers. "This initiative is a game-changer for local jobbers, offering them unparalleled opportunities to connect with new customers while strengthening their presence in the ever-evolving automotive aftermarket. By combining the convenience of e-commerce with the personalized touch of in-store service, we're empowering our warehouse customers to grow their businesses and thrive in today's competitive landscape."

BOPIS is the latest example of AAM's commitment to supporting local jobbers in a way that also benefits its members and supplier partners. AAM launched BOPIS in partnership with Lippert because they also recognize the critical role that healthy local jobbers play in the success of the entire automotive aftermarket ecosystem. The BOPIS functionality is currently live on the websites for CURTLUVERNE and UWS. Eventually, BOPIS will become available to other AAM supplier partners who share AAM's vision for supporting local shops.

"We really try to stay true to who we are as a manufacturer and focus on driving foot traffic and sales through our customers," said SVP of Lippert Automotive Sales Shane McNallie. "This ultimately leads to the best installation experiences for the consumer."
