Now that the RPM Act has been introduced in both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate during the 2019-2020 session of Congress, it’s up to industry and the racing community to ensure that our elected officials in Washington, DC make passing the bill a top priority! We need your business to rally its customers, employees, followers and friends to take action and tell Congress to save our racecars. After you send your letter at www.sema.org/rpm, here are two easy ways your business can help continue the RPM Act’s progress. (The following materials and additional assets can also be found at www.sema.org/rpmtools):

1. Promote the RPM Act on your website and at your business.

  • Consider adding custom RPM Act graphics and GIFs to your website’s homepage and promotional materials. You can also print these materials to display in your store or garage. Find the images here.
  • If adding the image to your website, be sure to link each image to www.votervoice.net/SEMA/campaigns/45394/respond. That way, visitors to your site will be sent to the letter-writing campaign directly. The form is short and only takes less than 30 seconds to fill out.

2. Spread the word on social media.

  • Your company can easily share the following Facebook, Instagram and Twitter posts on your own social-media platforms. Encourage your followers to write Congress and share these posts with their friends and contacts. Find the images here.

DakarBobby Patton and Robbie Pierce are piloting a Toyota Hilux in the Dakar Rally.

Fastball Racing Competing as Only American Car Entry in 2020 Dakar Rally

In 2019, Los Angeles Dodgers’ owner Bobby Patton finished every mile of every SCORE International desert race as driver of record in his No. 240 Jimco-built Fastball Racing Spec Trophy Truck to earn the Rod Hall SCORE Milestone Award—a distinction bestowed upon only 46 other SCORE series racers competing in 18 different classes. Covering 2,025 miles in a season helped prepare Patton for his biggest challenge yet—the Dakar Rally, which started January 4, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The route of the first edition of the Dakar in Saudi Arabia will cover a total of 4,460 miles, including 3,100 miles of specials. Patton has veteran off-road racer Robbie Pierce by his side. They are piloting a Lexus 5.0L V8-powered Toyota HiLux prepared and supported by the Overdrive team of Belgium. The HiLux is backed by a Sadev six-speed sequential gearbox to transfer power to the BFGoodrich tires even more efficiently.

Landon Simon will pilot the newly redesigned Rams Racing No. 2L Bullet Chassis powered by Mopar for the 34th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire.

SEMA High School Vehicle Build Program
The SEMA High School Vehicle Build Program will provide 10 high schools with hands-on-learning opportunities and expose hundreds of students to the $44.6 billion automotive specialty equipment industry.

SEMA has announced the 10 participating high schools for the 2019–2020 SEMA High School Vehicle Build Program—a project that reaches, inspires and supports high school students to learn about the automotive aftermarket industry, which debuted less than three years ago with just one participating school.

Four schools that participated last year will return to the program this year, with six new schools joining.

“The continuous success of this program speaks volumes to the positive impact auto technology programs have when offered in high school curricula,” said Katie Hurst, SEMA youth engagement programs manager. “SEMA is proud to provide these students with an avenue to further expand their advancement to a career in the automotive industry.”

Over the course of the semester, students will gain hands-on experience with aftermarket products, instilling them with skills in project management, installation, body styling and team building. Vehicles incorporated in this year’s program will include third-generation Toyota 4Runners and Jeep Wrangler TJs.

The chosen high schools for the 2019–2020 SEMA High School Vehicle Build Program are:

  • Career Center High School – Winston Salem, North Carolina
  • Comstock High School – Kalamazoo, Michigan
  • John Hersey High School – Arlington Heights, Illinois
  • McGavock High School – Nashville, Tennessee
  • Mon Valley Career & Technology Center – Charleroi, Pennsylvania
  • Omaha Public Schools Career Center – Omaha, Nebraska
  • R.L. Turner High School – Carrollton, Texas
  • Santa Fe ECO – Santa Fe, New Mexico
  • Santa Ynez Valley Union High School – Santa Ynez, California
  • Wichita Falls Career Education Center – Wichita Falls, Texas

Rogelio Martinez, a senior at Santa Fe Early Career Opportunities (ECO) High School who participated in last years’ build, shared his experience on what the program meant to him. “The part I loved was seeing all the new aftermarket parts we got to work with. It’s a passion for each and all of us to work with cars and when we get neat parts like this it’s just that much better.”

Upon the completion of the builds, each vehicle will be auctioned off with the proceeds being reinvested into the program to further expand another round of builds for the 2020–2021 school year. As participants of the program, each high school will also receive industry recognition through the SEMA build website and SEMA build promotions.

MPMC
Held January 21–23, at the Embassy Suites Orange County Airport North in Santa Ana, California, the 2020 MPMC Media Trade Conference gives editors and reporters an opportunity to have up to 14 one-on-one meetings each day of the event.

Media who have already registered for the 2020 MPMC Media Trade Conference received updated information about the event earlier this week, and will receive their schedules via email Monday, January 13. Those interested in attending may still sign up.

Because minor changes may occur to schedules, all participants are required to check in on their first day. Taking place January 21–23, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Santa Ana, California (1325 E. Dyer Rd., Santa Ana, CA 92705), the event provides journalists, bloggers, social media influencers and freelancers the ideal venue to meet with manufacturers and conduct high-quality, one-on-one interviews.

Many exhibitors still have openings in their schedules, but space is filling up quickly. Media who have not registered and would like to attend should contact Juan Torres immediately.

For exhibitor inquiries, contact Jim Skelly.
