I started out in the custom industry when there were very few women in it, and I have be very determined and inventive to be successful. I feel my many years of hands-on and management experiences in the custom end of the industry can provide the SBN Select Committee with fresh ideas and help the SBN and SEMA stay at the cutting edge of the automotive industry.

Camee Edelbrock - Schiefer Media Inc.
As vice president of advertising at the Edelbrock Corp., I was instrumental in building the company’s in-house agency into a full-service, integral division that designed and produced all marketing materials for the company. In 1993, I was honored to receive the SEMA Young Executive of the Year award. During my 27 years at Edelbrock, I managed public relations, media buying, advertising concept and design, copywriting and the in-house print department. Focusing on data standardization tools for the industry and connecting buyers and sellers via our widely syndicated parts search engine, gives me a unique perspective on the future of the marketplace. I have been serving and contributing at numerous AAIA and SEMA events for many years and have presented for AAIA- and SEMA-sponsored webinars. My goal, when elected, will be to apply my experience and expertise to strengthening the council’s objectives of member outreach and opportunities and facilitate the survival and prosperity of businesses as our industry continues to evolve.

Rose Kawasaki – Exports International, INCUMBENT
It has been a privilege to serve you on the Select Committee of the SEMA Businesswomen’s Network. I am honored to be nominated for Re-Election and humbly ask for your vote. It takes a team of several dedicated volunteers working together toward the success and future of the SBN and I feel compelled, that with my 23 years of industry experience, to dedicate my time in hopes that I may be able to “give back” in order to help others succeed and to make a difference for women in our industry. I pledge if re-elected, to continue to reach out to our SEMA member company employees and heighten their awareness of the SBN. Many of our SBN members are non-travelling and I will encourage them to get involved with all the diverse programs that it offers and recommend they become an active member through service on our committee through our Member Resource Pool and Mentoring Programs.

Christina Kwan – Kwan International Inc.
As a SBN Select Committee member, I will continue to strengthen the membership count by identifying and reaching out to potential new members. I strive to continue the mission of the SBN—to represent a strong and influential voice of women within the automotive industry. As an entrepreneur, I am challenged and driven to succeed each and every day while having to create balance between a professional and personal life. As a former U.S. National and World Boxing Champion, I have been faced with the physical challenges of training and competing—yet I realized from the very beginning, success starts from the mind and it can overcome any obstacles or adversities.

Sherry Price-McCall – Masters TV Inc.
I welcome an opportunity to contribute to the SBN Select Committee. If elected, I would bring to this position my commitment to our industry and my desire to see it thrive for generations to come. I currently serve on the SBN. I've had the privilege of creating a variety of new features and programs to promote the automotive industry. Many of which include the youth in motorsports and new ideas to keep them involved. The most recent was my concept for a 13-week series, highlighting the students of the University of Northwestern Ohio and their participation in the television series "Motorsports U".

YEN Select Committee Nominees and Bios:

Chris Crecelius - Hypertech
I appreciate the opportunity to get to run for the YEN Select Committee. I literally grew up in this industry, having been exposed to the aftermarket at an early age through my father. I have more than 20 years of experience working at the retail, wholesale and manufacturer levels, with companies such as Honest Charley, P&E Distributors, Holley Performance and Hypertech. I’ve held management positions in sales, marketing and technical support, and I am currently the national sales manager for Hypertech Inc. I have met many of you who were kind enough to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with me over the years, and I look forward to having the opportunity to use my skills, knowledge and background to help other young executives achieve excellence in our industry.

Chris Douglas – COMP Performance Group
I am honored to be considered for a position on the YEN Select Committee. As a lifelong racer, automotive enthusiast and aftermarket professional, I have been blessed with many great opportunities resulting from the efforts of those who have come before me and am passionate about extending those same opportunities to others. I have been fortunate to work with some of the most accomplished professionals in the industry and from those experiences I have gained valuable industry insight, team-building skills and big-picture perspectives that will allow me to be a working member of the YEN Select Committee. I have the utmost respect for the mission of YEN, and I look forward to sharing my time and experience in a productive and impacting manner.

Carlos Gutierrez – Rampage Products
I have worked in the automotive industry for more than 15 years. In that time span, I have contributed significantly to help grow an emerging company. As an active member in the off-road community, I've worked hard to help keep trails open. I currently volunteer with youth sport programs as a team leader, working with league board members to achieve team dynamics and goals. I believe that my sales and marketing experience along with an automotive passion and energy drive me to help and contribute to the YEN Select Committee.

Jenna Jefferies – K&N Engineering Inc.
I have been employed in the automotive aftermarket for more than 10 years and involved in racing for more than 20 years. I have worked with dealers, distributors and retailers and understand the industry. My family is very involved in racing and building off-road cars. We compete in the Score International Desert Series, Baja 500 and 1000, and other races such as the Mint 400. I have also raced some myself in an annual Charity Race for Breast Cancer. I love being a part of the race team, and I attend every race possible. I would like to be considered for the YEN Select Committee. I feel that this opportunity would allow me to get involved with others in our industry on a deeper level and develop better knowledge of how I can contribute to SEMA.

Dan Kahn – Kahn Media
I'm honored to be nominated for the YEN Select Committee. The economy and global market is rapidly changing, and it is up to us to shepherd the aftermarket through these changes in a positive way. My background in communications and social media will bring a fresh perspective to the group, and I will represent the interests of the media, manufacturing and marketing sectors well. I was chosen as a YEN Member-of-the-Month this year for my work in social media marketing and have been a member of SEMA for 12 years. I have worked 11 SEMA Shows, and I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the YMCA. I believe wholeheartedly in SEMA and all the programs it offers its members.

Jesse Rohr – MBRP Performance Exhaust
I would proudly uphold the position, if elected, and bring in the experience and knowledge I’ve gained thus far in this industry to help usher in a new chapter in YEN’s history. I’ve held four distinct positions, which has helped me become a well-rounded professional in this industry. Those positions include store manager of one of America’s largest automotive retail stores, vice president of sales and marketing of a large internet retailer, manufacturer’s rep to more than 35 factories, and now as an eastern North American sales director for a manufacturer. This experience has helped me become more versatile than most employees my age, and I would love to introduce some of these perspectives to the council over the next year.

  April CDI
The April SEMA CDI increase could indicate that consumers are willing to purchase more products in the next few months.

SEMA’s Consumer Demand Index (CDI) experienced yet another increase in April, going from 45 to 48. Representing a 7% increase, the CDI again matches closely with the Consumer Confidence Index which experienced an 11% increase from March to April.

The CDI is a weighted composite index, set to an initial value of 100 based on demand levels benchmarked between January and March 2007.

The April increase experienced by the CDI follows the 10-point increase from the month before and marks an 85% increase from April 2009. This could signal an indication that consumers are willing to purchase more products in the next few months—much needed good news for the specialty-equipment market.

In particular, approximately 1,094,000 households reportedly intend to make specialty-equipment purchases in the next three months, equating to $1.6 billion in sales. These buyers are most likely to purchase racing and performance products, followed by accessories and appearance products.

The SEMA Consumer Demand Index for Performance Products and Accessories (formerly PADI) measures purchase intentions of consumers (both enthusiast and mainstream) over the following 90 days. As enthusiasts represent approximately 10%–15% of U.S. drivers, the index is likely to be an indicator of mainstream consumer demand for automotive specialty and performance products.
