On May 14, 2010, Dorian Comeau, a co-owner of House of Boost in Lenexa, Kansas, was severely injured while testing a vehicle the company had built. The injury left him paralyzed from the neck down. Earlier fundraising efforts among friends and industry colleagues helped the Comeau family toward covering staggering health care and related costs of his injuries.

The Aftermarket Foundation, established to assist industry members facing especially difficult times, stepped in and is contributing monthly to help meet Comeau’s ongoing needs.

The Foundation now issues this Holiday Challenge: let’s band together as an industry-family for Dorian and raise $24,000 to cover the cost of a specially converted van. The van is necessary for critically needed transportation.

Every contribution, small or large, corporate or individual, will be greatly appreciated by Dorian.

Contributions can be made by credit card by CLICKING HERE or by phone to the Aftermarket Foundation offices at 772-286-5500.

Contributions can be made by check payable to AFTERMARKET FOUNDATION and sent to:

Camaro

Brenda Priddy's team of spy shooters caught these pictures of fire meeting ice as the 550-plus hp Camaro Z/28 conducts a late-season cold-weather test run.

With the front-end camouflage removed from this Z/28, the team grabbed some clear shots of the grille and the new lower fascia. They also provide us with an unobstructed look at the exceptionally long chin spoiler. Priddy says that this prototype is sporting the production hood, and there's no doubt an aggressive-looking scoop is hiding under that big bump in the camo. However, Priddy is not sure if those silver hood-pins are production or just a quick fix for the prototype.

With the remaining camo pulled over the front tightly, a new set of inlets on either end of the bumper can also be seen. And Priddy's team was told that the Z/28 front end will be close to the Transformers Camaro GM shown at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show.

A set of 20-inch wheels, wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires, appear to be the order of the day for the Z/28, and the brakes appear to be the same ones found on the Cadillac CTSv, according to Priddy.

The exhaust note coming from the Z/28 was described by Priddy's shooter as "nothing short of unholy!" There are also subtle changes to the rocker panels as well as the lower-rear fascia. While the photos don't show it, the shooter also noticed a few pieces of body-colored tape across the trunk lid on this prototype. Priddy believes the tape was covering the fastener points for a rear spoiler.

Under the hood of the Z/28 lies the "LSA" 6.2L, supercharged V8 from the Cadillac CTSv.

Priddy says to look for the 2012 Camaro Z/28 to go on sale in Q1 or Q2 of 2011.

Electronic cataloging and inventory controls have revolutionized the way business partners communicate with one another and how they provide information to consumers. The Internet is an incredibly efficient way for end users to find products, educate themselves about product benefits and specifications and find the best retail option available. If properly managed and maintained, electronic product information systems can reduce ordering errors and returns and increase bottom-line profits. The key is to put product data into an industry-standard format that allows the computer systems of all participants—manufacturers, distributors and jobber/retailers—to read and recognize product information. That includes everything from part numbers and pricing to descriptions and dimensions. [Read more]

Following much-heated debate, Congress approved a two-year extension of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts for all income levels. The SEMA-supported compromise agreement reached by President Obama and Congressional Republicans includes a retroactive extension of the research and development tax credit through 2011, a two-year reinstatement of the estate tax at 35% after the first $5 million, a 100% write-off on capital expenses for businesses during 2011 (up from 50%) and a one-year reduction in the worker’s Social Security payroll tax from 6.2% to 4.2%.

The Internal Revenue Service has released the 2011 percentage method tables for tax withholding and instructions for employers on implementing the 2011 payroll tax cuts. Click here for the IRS notice.

Click here for the law’s major tax provisions, which are important to SEMA-member companies.
