Salt Shark Streamliner to Be Featured at the “Save Bonneville Salt Flats” Booth

By SEMA Washington, D.C., Staff

Save the Salt
The Salt Shark streamliner, handcrafted by owner/driver Tom Flattery and friends in Fremont, California, and seeking to become the “world’s fastest gasoline powered automobile.”

Visit the “Save the Salt Booth” in the Central Hall (#24099) of the 2019 SEMA Show and see the spectacular “Salt Shark” streamliner. This speed machine was handcrafted by owner/driver Tom Flattery and friends in his Fremont, California, carport. Flattery designed the car with a race plan to earn the distinction of “world’s fastest gasoline-powered automobile.” Weighing in at 4,000 lbs., Salt Shark is powered by a 427 LSX by Golan Engine combined with a five-speed B&J Racing Transmission. Flattery’s C4 Corvette daily driver was the first car he rebuilt into a land speed car.

The Bonneville Salt Flats possess rare physical qualities that has made it a perfect land-speed racing venue since 1914. SEMA, along with other organizations and companies comprising the Save the Salt Coalition, is working closely with federal and state government officials and the adjoining potash mine owner to restore Bonneville. A 10-year salt pumping program is being developed to triple the amount currently being pumped to bring the Salt Flats closer to its former glory.
