Ohio Governor John Kasich signed into law a bill that defines unsafe used tires and prohibits their installation. An unsafe used tire would have a tread depth of under 2/32 in.; damage that exposes inner components, such as body plies and steel belts; improper repairs; or missing its U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) identification number. Colorado and New Jersey have already enacted similar bills. At least 30 million used tires are estimated to be sold in the United States each year.
