Legislation to Restrict Aftermarket Headlamps in North Carolina Defeated

At SEMA’s request, a provision was deleted in North Carolina legislation that would have imposed a fine on any person that equipped a car with headlamps that “change the original design.” The provision conflicted with the federal National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, which specifies that standards adopted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are to be performance standards and not design standards.
