Spy Shots: Audi's 340-HP Hot Hatch

Brenda Priddy tells us that Audi is considering building a new RS3, according to a member of the automaker's management board. These recent pictures of the pocket rocket mule testing at the Nürburgring lend weight to the claim.

While the test car wears an S3 body, the air intakes on either side of the grille appear to be modified and slightly larger, and the brake rotors also appear to be larger and cross-drilled, Priddy says.

Power will come from Audi's 2.5L five-cylinder turbocharged engine, with 340 hp and 450 lb.-ft. of torque (launched on the latest TT-RS). Considering that the proposed RS3 would probably weigh about as much as the TT-RS, a 0–62 time of around 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 178 mph sound reasonable.
