As the General Manager of the Racing Division at Brembo North America, Mike Messina oversees the technical and commercial direction of some of the most respected motorsports braking applications in the industry. His role spans everything from OEM racing development and new market expansion to media engagement and, as he humbly jokes, serving as the division’s “occasional whipping post.” With a passion for competition and craftsmanship, Messina has spent his career helping elevate performance on and off the track.
When asked about his biggest concern for the industry, Messina pointed to the increasing impact of legislation and rising costs, which are factors he believe threaten innovation, access, and long-term stability. Equally concerning to him is the dwindling presence of seasoned mentors.
“There are fewer and fewer mentors out there to inspire the next generation,” said Messina.
Among a career filled with milestones, one moment stands above the rest: winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016 with Ford on their first return since 1966. The achievement—reminiscent of the real-life “Ford v Ferrari” story—remains a defining highlight of his professional journey.
A true enthusiast at heart, Messina’s vehicles reflect his passion: a 2025 Ram, 1991 Porsche 911, 2006 BMW M3, and 2014 Corvette Z51. But if he had the chance, he’d bring back one favorite – a 1968 Charger, a car that clearly left a lasting impression.
This year, Messina’s most important career goal is expanding into drag racing, further extending Brembo’s reach into diverse forms of motorsport. Along the way, he credits one mentor for shaping his leadership: Dan Sandberg, former CEO, whom he praises as a big-picture guy who hasn’t forgotten what normal people care about. From Sandberg, he absorbed one of the best pieces of advice he’s ever received: “Play the long game. The truth is always the easiest thing to remember.”
When it comes to events, Messina looks forward each year to the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, Thanksgiving, and any open track day. For him, these moments combine family, competition, and pure driving passion.
With Messina’s deep industry experience, forward-thinking mindset, and commitment to mentorship, he continues to be a valued leader within the aftermarket community.
