By Dan Guyer, APG, and Jason Weidmann, Vision Wheel
The latest Wheel, Tire, Suspension & Brake Council (WTSBC) Coffee & Conversation brought together a diverse group of industry professionals for an engaging discussion focused on one of the fastest-growing topics in business today: artificial intelligence (AI). Members representing manufacturers, software providers, media organizations, marketing agencies, retailers and product development teams joined the virtual session to share ideas, experiences and practical applications of AI within the automotive aftermarket.
The conversation was led by WTSBC leadership, including Chair-Elect Dan Guyer and Networking Committee Chair Jason Weidmann, and featured insights from Jason Abrahams of Tire Tutor AI and Andrew Gordon of Automotive Ventures. Together, they helped break down how AI is already being integrated into everyday business operations across the industry.
Key Takeaways
A major theme throughout the discussion was the evolution of AI from simple chat-based tools into more advanced “agentic” systems capable of completing multi-step tasks autonomously. Participants discussed how platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are being used not only for research and writing, but also for coding, marketing automation, forecasting, spreadsheet analysis, reporting and operational efficiency.
Real-world examples helped attendees better understand the practical value of AI tools. One example demonstrated how AI could process handwritten sales slips, extract and verify data and automatically enter information into accounting software, saving valuable administrative time. Other participants shared how AI is helping create newsletters, organize marketing efforts, analyze supply chain trends and support strategic business planning.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of context and human oversight when using AI. Speakers emphasized that while AI can significantly improve efficiency and productivity, successful implementation still depends on quality data, clear instructions and careful review of outputs. Attendees were encouraged to think of AI not as a replacement for people, but as a tool that can enhance decision-making and streamline repetitive tasks.
Beyond the technology itself, the session reinforced the value of WTSBC’s Coffee & Conversation series as a space for industry professionals to exchange ideas, ask questions and learn from one another in a collaborative setting. As AI continues to evolve, conversations like these help members better understand emerging technologies and how they may shape the future of the aftermarket industry.
