The SEMA Motorsports Products and Media Council (MPMC) Select Committee recently gathered for their Long-Range Planning meeting and reflected on a year of massive change and even bigger wins. As they look in the rear-view mirror at 2025, it’s clear that the MPMC community is not just growing but evolving. Under a new vision and a refreshed mission, the council has spent the last twelve months building a stronger foundation for everyone who lives and breathes the world of motorsports.

A New Mission and Expanded Identity
One of the most significant shifts this past year was the official expansion of the council’s identity. In July, the SEMA Board of Directors approved a major change for the council – officially renaming the Motorsports Parts Manufacturers Council to the Motorsports Products and Media Council. This change is more than just a name; it reflects a new mission to empower manufacturers of performance products and media professionals through unique networking, education, and advocacy. By opening doors to offer MPMC membership to media professionals and expanding from "parts" to "products," the council is creating a more inclusive environment where innovation and collaboration can thrive year-round.

Major Milestones and Event Success
Since the council’s evolution, the calendar has been filled with standout moments demonstrating members’ readiness to deliver. The Media Trade Conference returned to Anaheim, California, bringing together manufacturers and media for thousands of face-to-face conversations. Supported by seven sponsors, the event underscored the power of storytelling and building quality in-person business relationships.

In addition to live events, education initiatives saw a major boost in peer-to-peer learning from member expert panelists. The council hosted four webinars centered around marketing that saw increased attendance and watch time. They also began building important relationships with Northwood University and surveyed members to ensure the council is teaching the skills members want to learn.

Celebrating Excellence in the Ranks
The MPMC community is only as strong as its people. This year, the council proudly honored several legends and rising stars. The Hall of Fame Award ceremonies held during the PRI Reception honored the incredible work and industry contributions of Paul Lee, Dave Nelson, and Joe Rutledge. MPMC also celebrated the future of the motorsports media industry by awarding the 2025 Robert E. Petersen Media Award to Alex Taylor. Taylor was recognized for her trailblazing efforts that authentically blend her passion for wrenching and racing with television show hosting and YouTube channel success.

Communication and Support
Keeping members connected remains a top priority. The MPMC team has been busy stockpiling fresh content and growing its newsletter and social media presence. None of this would be possible without the dedicated support from SEMA. From Council Directors, Marcy Yanus and Angela Richardson, coordinating leadership to Byron Bergmann and his team making the magic happen at operations, the support system for MPMC has never been stronger.

The Road Ahead
As the MPMC Select Committee ended their year in review, they paused to reflect on the industry’s storied beginnings. They took inspiration from pioneers like Robert E. Petersen, founder of NHRA; Wally Parks, founder of NHRA; and Zora Arkus Duntov of Chevrolet, who knew that offering engineered, validated solutions were the key to success. Moving forward during the meeting, the group continued to deep dive into the needs of MPMC members.

The road ahead is wide open. Amongst MPMC members are the products, the media, and most importantly, the passion. Thank you to the MPMC Select Committee volunteers for their tireless dedication and services. And thank you to all members for showing up, coming together, and making the past year one to remember.
