SEMA Tools to Assist in Making and Selling Products That Overseas Consumers Want

International Vehicle Scans Available Through SEMA Tech Transfer Program
SEMA has augmented its popular vehicle-import program with a scan library of 12 international vehicles (as well as those imported to the United States and others measured overseas). SEMA staff utilizes a SEMA FARO laser scanner to gather measurements for members. The scans are then made available through the SEMA Tech Transfer program to members.
The FARO laser scanner allows SEMA to scan vehicles or parts. Through SEMA’s Tech Transfer program, SEMA can provide data in STL format (graphical data); surface data, such as IGES; or export-specific features (plane surfaces, sketches, points, splines, etc.) based on what a member may be trying to achieve with the scan.
Scan data is available for the following vehicles through the SEMA Tech Transfer program:

|SEMA members are invited to measure international vehicles popularly customized globally but not sold in the United States. SEMA currently has a ’16 Toyota HiLux and ’16 Ford Ranger for members to measure, free of charge, in the SEMA Garage. Members can also have the vehicles shipped to their facilities if they wish.|
SEMA’s make/model data can assist you in identifying the most promising international markets. Through the use of easy-to-use information, you can identify top markets based on the platforms for which you already create products. Alternatively, the data can be used to provide valuable information on vehicle sales in a market you are already considering. It will help you identify the best markets in terms of vehicle sales for popular vehicles such as the Mustang, Wrangler, HiLux, Ranger and F-150.
Perhaps your company makes products for the Jeep Wrangler, for example. Did you know that Canada, China, Mexico, Australia and Japan have the largest share of Wranglers outside the United States? Or maybe you are interested in growing your business in Australia. Pickups are very popular in that market, but did you know that the best-selling trucks Down Under are the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger and Mitsubishi Triton/L200? They are all vehicles not sold in the United States but available to members either in the form of scans or the actual vehicles in-hand to measure at the SEMA Garage.
Make/model data from ’02–’16 is available free of charge to SEMA members. The data includes information about top-selling cars, SUVs and pickups for top markets, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Germany, China and many others. In total, 12 reports are available free of charge to SEMA members.
Through a joint program with the U.S. Department of Commerce and using IHS Automotive data, SEMA has complied the data into a user-friendly resource.

2018 SEMA Show
|Meet international buyers before the 2018 SEMA Show opens by participating in four roundtable discussions on Monday, October 29: the Middle East (11:00 a.m.), Australia (12:00 p.m.) Latin America (2:00 p.m.) and China (3:00 p.m.) This is the first Latin American roundtable and buyers from throughout the 22 countries that make up this region are expected.|
International buyers represent 25% of all trade buyers at the SEMA Show, and meeting international buyers is a key goal of a growing number of exhibitors at the annual event. SEMA organizes programs and resources throughout Show week to help connect exhibitors with buyers from nearly 150 countries—and one takes place before the Show even opens. SEMA International Roundtables (Save the Date!)
On Monday, October 29, SEMA will again host roundtables/networking sessions with top automotive specialty-equipment buyers from the Middle East, Australia, China and—new for 2018—a roundtable on Latin America. Join exhibitors interested in these key markets as well as international trade buyers of off-road, motorsports and styling products from these markets for discussions on the opportunities and challenges U.S. manufacturers face in doing business in key markets around the world.
International Happy Hour
The 2018 International Happy Hour will be held on Wednesday, October 31, during the SEMA Show. Network with international buyers, distributors and media right in the Las Vegas Convention Center at the close of the Show day. More than 1,000 companies are expected to attend this year’s networking party.
Global Media Awards
The annual Global Media Awards will once again be selected by top automotive journalists from more than 20 countries. Each will name 10 products from the New Products Showcase that they think will most appeal to consumers in their home markets. Winners will be recognized at the International Happy Hour with a Global Media Award that signifies the global appeal of their products and company.
