The ’19 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was caught showing off a less-rugged look. This prototype features curves and sweeping lines—something never seen before on a Silverado.

GM is expected to make radical changes to its fullsize pickups in the form of aluminum-intensive construction to shed weight and improve efficiency, following similar efforts by Ford.

A turbocharged V6 option is also said to be offered with the new generation of GM trucks, as is a diesel V6 (confirmed). The 10-speed automatic already seen in the Camaro ZL1 should replace the current eight-speed unit in many, if not all, versions of the

The Silverado should have an on-sale date late in 2018.




This is the ’19 Ford Ranger XLT, caught cold-weather testing in production metal. Up until this point, this truck had been seen with only its mule front end. It is now confirmed that the XLT will receive its own unique grille (following in the footsteps of the F-150 lineup).

In other markets, the current XLT can be had with the 3.2L diesel engine found in the Transit. It’s unclear if it will be offered on U.S. models, but the Ranger could be offered in a number of configurations to compete with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon.

Expect a full complement of Ecoboost four- and six-cylinder engines and perhaps a diesel.

This is the ’19 RAM 1500 with its face completely revealed. Earlier shots offered an almost unobstructed view, but this is the whole enchilada.

Continuing with the steel body for the RAM 1500 is a break from Ford’s pattern for weight savings on a fullsize truck. Apparently, FCA decided that a more traditional, predominantly steel RAM is the right path for its next-generation truck.

Other details have been firmed up ahead of its debut. Coil springs with optional air suspension are likely to continue and will be joined by a larger passenger cab and new tailgate options. A hybrid and a turbocharged four-cylinder are possibilities, but a more powerful V8 and Raptor-fighter are also rumored.




The return of the Jeep pickup has long been speculated about, and these up-close shots hint at what it will look like. It’s expected to be based on the long-wheelbase Wrangler Unlimited platform, with similar front-end styling and traditional Jeep styling toward the rear.

The pickup will adopt more aluminum panels to save weight while still allowing for good hauling and off-road capabilities. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 and an eight-speed automatic are likely to be the mainstream powertrain, but a hybrid will be added later. A diesel is a question mark at this point.

Jeep is rumored to be sticking with the historical name Scrambler for the pickup. Expect to see it later this year, with an on-sale date in early 2019.
