Since the inception of the SEMA Data Co-op (SDC) in 2012, more than 520 product brands representing more than 4.5 million parts have joined what is now the industry’s largest specialty parts product data repository. Designed to enable any company, no matter how small or large, to effectively manage and distribute its product data at the lowest possible cost, the SDC has an expert staff that will coach you all the way through the process.

At this year’s SEMA Show, the SDC has two booths for your convenience. We have our original location in the Central Hall, #20679, located one level off the Show floor behind the Ford display, and new for 2017, we have booth #33240 in the Business Services section of the South Hall. 10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.: Top 10 Tricks to Healthier Data Content

Overview: This fast-paced session highlights top challenges in data management and the top 10 tricks you need to turn your data into your number-one sales tool. This course is designed to help newbies leverage data content to increase sales, and it provides seasoned data veterans with reasons to pause and consider areas that need to be revisited. Good is no longer considered good enough.

Session Description: “We need better and more complete data from our suppliers” is the number-one demand the SDC hears from data receivers. Do you really know how your customers feel about the condition of your data? Do you need ideas on how to improve your data and where to start? Are you leveraging the data standards to your benefit? In this quick primer, we will review the top 10 focus areas to ensure a data set that will exceed your data receivers’ expectations. As a bonus, you’ll be among the first to be introduced to additional resources we have created to help you improve and maintain your data health.

1:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m.: Product Data ROI: A Business Case for Data Management

Overview: Join a lively presentation from the SDC as we make a business case to manufacturers for using the SDC system to manage and distribute product data. Citing real-world examples, learn how the quality of your product data can make the difference between a consumer buying your product or that of your competitors. You might even hear from a guest speaker or two.

Session Description: During this presentation, the SDC will outline why building and maintaining standards-compliant quality product data is crucial for manufacturers in today’s electronic marketplaces. Learn how to maximize return on investment from your data department. Data management encompasses much more than the simple load sheets of years past. Today, data powers virtually every business system and flows through retail chain stores, websites and marketplaces such as eBay, Amazon and Wal-Mart. Well over 50% of potential buyers of specialty auto parts report using the internet for research before they buy. No data, no search results, no sales.

SDC PIMS Version 2.0

Throughout 2017, the SDC has been hard at work overhauling the member dashboard and user interface (UI) of our product information management system (PIM). While our PIM system is quite technologically advanced, we received feedback that it could be a bit more user friendly. We agree and are pleased to announce the release of a new UI that matches impressive technical sophistication with the easy-to-use web-based dashboard our members expect. Please stop by one of the SDC booths to see firsthand how our new UI operates and let one of our staff give you an overview of the SDC.
