Bestop acquired Baja Designs (BD) of San Marcos, California. Kahn Media was named the PR agency of record for Black Rhino Tools. Motovicity Distribution announced the addition of McGard to its line card. Founded in 1959, McGard Inc. began designing and patenting security nuts that helped prevent the theft of automobile wheels and tires. Betts Co. appointed Dan Flores as the company’s new controller. He will report to President Bill Betts. Flores has more than 12 years of accounting, purchasing and administration experience. In his new role at Betts, Flores will manage the finance department, general ledger, audits, and cost and account trade.

Truck Hero announced several intercompany promotions. Ryan Herman (formerly vice president of sales for BAK Industries) will assume the newly created position of executive vice president of sales for Truck Hero. He will be responsible for all sales activity for Extang, TruXedo, Advantage, Retrax, BAK Industries, international sales and corporate customer service. Joel Mohlenhoff, (formerly vice president of sales for TruXedo) has been promoted to vice president of sales for BAK Industries. Derive Systems announced that David Griffin joined the company as Calibrations Engineer III. Griffin will support the Derive Power brands of SCT Performance and Bully Dog, and he will report directly to Calibrations Engineer Ryan Krummick. Bob Hirsch, president of the Automotive Aftermarket Charitable Foundation (AACF) has announced that Damien Harmon, vice president of operations for Bridgestone Retail Operations (BSRO), will join the AACF board of trustees. Harmon joined the company in 2014. He is responsible for strategic leadership of store operations and all general operations of the business, including service capability, customer retention, information technology and education. A.R.E. Accessories Inc. promoted Bryan Mutchler to marketing manager. Mutchler, who has served A.R.E. for 18 years, will be responsible for developing, overseeing and executing A.R.E.’s marketing strategy. Mutchler began his career with A.R.E. in the loading department on the midnight shift in 1998 before joining the shipping/receiving department. He worked in both customer service and the scheduling department for six additional years, learning critical facets of the company’s operations. Hypertherm released its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report, measuring 2015 progress on Hypertherm’s social and environmental goals. The report covers three different CSR disciplines: the community, environment and associate wellbeing. Highlights from 2015 include an increase in hours spent volunteering, success engaging more students in STEM fields, the opening of a regional recycling center, and the hosting of Hypertherm’s first-ever Supplier Sustainability Summit to discuss shared challenges and best practices. To help alleviate the automotive aftermarket’s returns problem, Motorcar Parts of America (MPA) launched a warranty-reduction program for starters and alternators. In order to prevent technicians from returning good units, MPA attaches prominent, red, “Call Before You Return” tags that have to be removed before installation can proceed. If a starter or alternator appears not to be working, customers are instructed to call a toll-free tech line rather than return the part to the reseller. The tech line is manned seven days a week by ASE-certified technicians.

The AAM Group recently named Samuel Kieffer as purchasing analyst—a newly created position intended to bolster engagement between AAM-member warehouses and manufacturing partners. The role reflects AAM’s commitment to the growth of its stakeholders through the identification of performance challenges and the implementation of strategic solutions based on each company’s overall goals.

VP Racing Fuels Inc. announced a new program to promote VP-branded apparel, promotional items and novelties. As part of the program, Barker Specialty is partnering with VP to host a new e-commerce site and serve as a one-stop shop for purchase of an expanded line of hats, T-shirts, promotional items and more. Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. promoted Randy Gaetz to senior vice president of sales. Gaetz joined Toyo Tires in 2013 as vice president of sales and has been instrumental in growing consumer tire market share in the United States and successfully relaunching the brand’s truck and bus tire business.
