Meet the Supporters of the RPM Act

By Matt Donovan

A wide cross section of Congressional members from both parties have signed on as sponsors of the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2016 (RPM Act). Is your member on the list?

In the months since the legislation was introduced, support for the RPM Act in Congress has grown tremendously. The legislation remains essential to the future of motorsports. Despite recently withdrawing language from a proposed regulation, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) continues to claim that it has the authority to regulate street cars modified exclusively for the track. If the EPA decided to enforce this authority, it would have a devastating impact on businesses that supply motorsports products, jeopardizing the jobs and communities the industry supports.

The RPM Act would give the motorsports industry certainty regarding how the Clean Air Act is applied, and its passage is the only way to confirm that modifying street vehicles into race cars used solely on the track—and the businesses that support the practice—is legal.

Prior to the EPA’s April 15 announcement, the RPM Act had five U.S. Senate co-sponsors and 40 co-sponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives. By early June, the bill had 103 House sponsors and 18 in the Senate, and the numbers continue to grow.

The following is a list of those who have signed on as RPM Act sponsors to date.
