MPMC Offers Benefits for Its Manufacturer Members

  Media Trade Conference
The MPMC Media Trade Conference allows the opportunity for each participating member manufacturer to host 42 private meetings between its company representatives and members of the media.

The Motorsports Parts Manufacturers Council (MPMC) is unique among SEMA’s councils in that every company is a manufacturer. The MPMC’s primary objective is to provide solutions to the challenges that motorsports manufacturers face. Through programs and events, the MPMC membership gains valuable face time with the media, potential customers and fellow manufacturers.

Moments in MPMC History

  • 1995—The World Motorsports Society formed to focus on the interests of the market. Soon after, the organization became the Motorsports Parts Manufacturers Council.
  • 1998—The first Media Trade Conference was held.
  • 2008—The “Business Guidelines Manual” was released. It was written by MPMC manufacturers for manufacturers.
  • 2010—The MPMC Hall of Fame was instituted.

Media Trade Conference

The Media Trade Conference, now entering its 19th year, is a one-of-a-kind event that gives MPMC members the chance to showcase their latest motorsports products. The conference, held annually in January, is a three-day event that attracts more than 200 members of the media who are eager to meet one-on-one with the exhibiting manufacturers.

With 42 opportunities for private meetings, each exhibiting MPMC member can expand its media contact list, expand on promotional opportunities and guide the messaging for the company’s products. Besides a jam-packed schedule of meetings, the Media Trade Conference offers more events throughout the week for further networking and educational opportunities.

Exhibitor registration for the 2017 event will open next month in August. Visit www.sema.org/mpmc for more information and to become an exhibitor. Because space is limited, exhibitors are chosen using a lottery-style selection process. Companies not chosen in a given year gain a first right of refusal for the following year’s event.

ETTN Motorsports Roundtable

The MPMC has also partnered with the Emerging Trends & Technology Network (ETTN) to produce the ETTN Motorsports Roundtable, which is an educational event designed to facilitate discussions on topics trending in motorsports. Led by experts in their fields, the event offers six table topic opportunities for attendees to engage in.

MPMC Awards Reception

At a reception during the Media Trade Conference, the MPMC recognizes one outstanding member of the media with the annual Robert E. Petersen Award. The selected individual is nominated and voted on by the MPMC membership for his or her contributions to the motorsports industry within the past year. The associated reception is an added opportunity for manufacturers and media to mix and mingle while enjoying food and beverages.

Get Connected at PRI

The MPMC also has a large presence at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show, held annually in December in Indianapolis. A majority of the council’s membership exhibits at the show, and both members and non-members are welcome to attend any of the MPMC events that take place during the week. Events include a general membership meeting, educational seminars and the MPMC Hall of Fame industry reception.

General membership meetings are a wonderful opportunity for the MPMC membership and select-committee members to get together to talk about industry current events, guide council initiatives toward solutions to challenges that member companies are facing, and learn how to get more involved with the council. The meetings are conveniently held during setup day for the PRI Show, and attendees can enjoy lunch while networking with fellow manufacturers.

Educational seminars held at the PRI Show are an opportunity to hear from guest speakers on a range of topics pertaining to the motorsports industry. Past topics have included:

  • The Business of Engine Building
  • Business Opportunities With Alternative Fuels
  • Drag Racing Roundtable
  • Rules of the Road for Motorsports Haulers

The industry reception is the ultimate networking opportunity for the motorsports industry. Attendees from the show and the local area gather for an evening of connecting with old friends and creating new relationships. At the reception, the council honors individuals who have impacted the motorsports industry. These peer-nominated individuals are immortalized by being inducted into the MPMC Hall of Fame.

The MPMC is continually fine-tuning and creating opportunities for its membership. To join MPMC, visit www.sema.org/mpmc.
