The MOPAR team has revealed a concept truck designed for travel adventure—the RAM 1500 Rebel “Off The Grid” (OTG) concept. The truck was unveiled Tuesday, November 5, in the MOPAR/Fiat Chrysler Automobiles booth at the 2019 SEMA Show.
The OTG concept is based on a ’20 RAM 1500 equipped with the new 3.0L V-6 EcoDiesel engine, which offers exceptional low-end torque and extended driving range, coupled with a 33-gallon tank that makes the truck ideal for long-distance travel.
The vehicle draws upon the rugged capabilities of the production RAM 1500 Rebel with a 2-in. lift, beadlock wheels and 35-in. Goodyear tires Also included are concept accessories, such as a snorkel air intake, step-assist rock rails and a bed rack carrying a collapsible rooftop tent. An onboard battery-powered cooler and kitchen unit, gas-powered stove and sink with an onboard water system and a solar panel set all provide off-the-grid capabilities.
For vehicle recovery, the OTG is equipped with an integrated front-bumper winch, traction mats attached to the rack system and a Hi-Lift jack for uneven ground mounted on the top of the cab. LED off-road driving lamps are mounted on the front bumper.
MOPAR also revealed a ’68 Dodge D200-series heavy-duty pickup they had transformed into the MOPAR “Lowliner” Concept. Designers fully boxed the C-channel frame, substantially lowered the ride height and lengthened the wheelbase. They also made a custom, power-tilt front end to showcase the 5.9L Cummins diesel, which is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
Custom wheels with a “smoothie” look mimic stamped steel of the late ’60s—22x9.5 in. in front and 22x11 in. in the rear. To package the air suspension components and relocated fuel cell, the floor of the truck bed was raised 6 in. The wheelwells were widened 5 in. per side to house the rear tires. A custom air suspension features three modes: low, driving height and driving height plus.
Designers streamlined the exterior to reinforce a smooth appearance, simplifying graphics and eliminating elements, such as door handles, badging, a fuel-filler cap and radio antenna.
A MOPAR Omega M logo has been ghosted onto the front fenders and a vintage Dodge graphic is ghosted onto the tailgate. The truck is painted in Candied Delmonico Red and Dairy Cream.
