This is the new Buick Encore, caught testing for the first time in Metro Detroit.
The Encore just received revisions last year, but it’s scheduled to be completely new in 2019. It will ride on an updated platform shared with the likes of the Chevrolet Bolt, and will also spawn a Chevrolet Trax variant. Expect the new Encore to be larger both inside and out, addressing a criticism of the current model. Updated Buick styling will also be added.
The Encore will continue offering a range of small-displacement turbocharged four-cylinder engines, although horsepower will likely rise. A more powerful variant may be offered to better compete with the likes of the BMW X1 and Volvo XC40, which offer far more than 200 hp from their engines.
The new Encore could show up in 2019 for the ’20 model year.
