The Emerging Trends & Technology Network (ETTN), in partnership with the SEMA Garage, is developing a series of Vehicle Technology Resource Alerts (Tech Alerts). The Tech Alerts are one-page summaries of key information about new and emerging vehicle technologies and trends impacting the performance aftermarket industry. Several Tech Alerts have already been created and will be released over the next few months in SEMA eNews. All Tech Alerts will be posted and archived on www.sema.org/tech-alert.
The first Tech Alert is an introduction to Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs). The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) performance guidelines for connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) just released last month mark a change in how the federal government is approaching advanced vehicle technologies and new business opportunities. The 15 performance guidelines signal a more proactive role by regulators for greater collaboration with automakers, aftermarket suppliers and technology companies racing to deliver connected and autonomous vehicle systems, products and software. The new guidelines encompass all vehicles with an SAE Level 3 automated driving system or higher.
