FTC Allows Businesses to Post Consumer Warranties on Websites

The Federal Trade Commission updated its regulations to allow manufacturers to publish consumer product warranty information on websites. Congress passed a SEMA-supported law in 2015 amending the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act to provide businesses with the option of posting warranty information on a website rather than including it in the instructions that accompany their products. Companies providing online warranty information still need to alert consumers about how to access the websites either on the product, its packaging or in an accompanying manual. They also need to provide a phone number or mailing address as another option besides a website for obtaining information.
