The SEMA Market Update is a regularly published report that tracks industry and economic trends affecting the $28 billion specialty-equipment industry.

Q2 2011 brought some additional instability to our current economic recovery. Overall, the U.S. economy is forecast to grow over the next few years, but many are expecting somewhat slower growth than forecast during Q1.

In this edition of Current Topics:

  • New-vehicles sales forecasts through 2016 from automotive research firm AutoPacific. Vehicle sales mix has changed substantially over the last five years, these projections will help you anticipate what will sell for the next five years;
  • Dealer accessory sales from technology provider Insignia Group. Dealerships are using technology solutions to help them sell accessories to new-car buyers, which in turn may help aftermarket suppliers;
  • Vehicle purchase dynamics from AutoPacific. This excerpt of the 2010 Brand Retention and Nameplate Dynamics study shows why new buyers make their vehicle-type selection and what they are likely to buy next.
