SEMA Town Halls Provide Value to Industry Members
SEMA Town Hall meetings provide a beneficial networking hour, allowing local industry members to connect and interact with SEMA staff.
SEMA has a mission to help its member companies succeed and prosper as well as bring value to the industry as a whole. SEMA understands the importance of getting out and meeting face-to-face with its members. In 2011, the association took a look at a strategic way to do that, hear firsthand the issues member businesses are facing, and what SEMA could be doing to lend support while discussing the state of the industry.
Each year, the association’s key executive leaders, department heads and members of the Board of Directors travel to different cities, eager for relevant discussions and to connect with industry members. SEMA Town Hall meetings are held around the country at facilities of SEMA-member companies. Local SEMA members as well as prospective members are invited to attend. While each SEMA Town Hall meeting’s content may be different based on current industry events, new association initiatives or evolving member benefits, each event has a set agenda:
- Discuss the state of the industry.
- Hear feedback from SEMA members.
- Enjoy some time networking with SEMA leadership over a bite to eat and a drink.
To date, SEMA has held 18 Town Hall meetings across the country, attracting more than 1,800 automotive aftermarket professionals. These informal gatherings are opportunities for local members to learn about benefits their companies may not be taking advantage of, hear SEMA President and CEO Chris Kersting discuss the state of the industry, providing great insight on trends and current events, and network with other local professionals.
Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and bring up obstacles their companies are facing.
“I participated in the SEMA Town Hall meeting hosted by Roush at its automotive museum in Livonia, Michigan,” said Scott Wolin of Chicago Parts & Sound. “The attendance, ambiance and food were fantastic, with great conversations and feedback from the largest crowd of the year. The updates from Chris Kersting and the SEMA staff on new programs and the activities surrounding the RPM Act were excellent. Don’t miss a SEMA Town Hall meeting when one comes to a city near you!”
Hosting a SEMA Town Hall is a great opportunity for your business and staff members. Not only are you bringing hundreds of people to your facility, but you are also working directly with SEMA to bring this event to life.
“Hosting the SEMA Town Hall was certainly one of the best events we’ve been involved with,” said Daryl Sampson of Turn 14 Distribution, which hosted a Town Hall at its facility in Pennsylvania in 2015. “As a warehouse distributor [WD], having the event at our facility allowed us to network with a cross-section of industry people whom we normally wouldn’t have the opportunity to. They included customers, retailers, other WDs and manufacturers. The SEMA Town Halls are an asset to our industry. They give everyone involved the opportunity to learn more about our industry and its members with an intimate setting to do so.”
