What is the SEMA Opinion Leader Program?
SEMA launched the Enthusiast Opinion Leader Research Program at the 2009 SEMA Show. The program brings together a group of the nation's most active and influential automotive enthusiasts to help identify future trends in the market. Opinion Leader participants will get an exclusive preview of thousands of new products and be asked to share feedback and their personal outlook on industry trends, products, vehicles and their experience at the SEMA Show. Participants will also be encouraged to share photos, videos, comments, etc. through your favorite social media platforms.
What will I see at the SEMA show?
You'll see 2000+ of the top manufacturers in the automotive aftermarket displaying their latest products before they debut them to the public. You'll also see 2000 of the most tricked-out vehicles anywhere on the planet spread out across the entire Las Vegas Convention Center.
How big is the SEMA show?
It's the largest automotive specialty equipment trade show on the planet, with more than one million square feet filled with cool vehicles, hot products and the newest trends.
Who attends the SEMA show?
The SEMA Show is open to the trade only, which includes manufacturers and retailers of automotive aftermarket products, as well as service providers to the aftermarket and top media outlets from around the world. Manufacturers show their latest products, many of which have not been introduced to the general public, and the SEMA Show provides a great venue to speak to the manufacturers one-on-one about their products.

Will my favorite vehicle be represented at the show?
Almost definitely! The SEMA Show is comprised of the sections that include: Racing & Performance, Hot Rod Alley, Mobile Electronics & Technology, Powersports & Utility Vehicles, Restoration, Restyling & Car Care Accessories, Trucks, SUVs & Off-Road and Wheels & Accessories, so there's something for everyone. How do I qualify to participate in this program? is there a cost to participate?
Interested participants can apply by filling out a survey online. Participants will be required to provide information on yourself that would quality you as an active automotive enthusiast. Participants and guests also must be 18 years or older. There is no cost to apply, or for a badge.
Will SEMA cover the cost of travel expenses?
Opinion Leader participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodations to and from the Las Vegas Convention Center. However, SEMA can provide a list of hotels that are offering discounted rates during the SEMA Show. You can obtain this list, by visiting www.semashow.com/travel
What are the dates and location of this program?
The SEMA Opinion Leader Program will take place on Thursday, November 3, 2011 during Show hours from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Participants can arrive early to check out the latest and greatest new products before they are unveiled to the public beginning at 7AM, and registration will be open at that time. Registration is located right next to the New Products section on the top level of the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
What will I be required to do as a participant of the opinion leader program?
Participants will be encouraged to add SEMA to their social networks, register with the SEMA social media feed, publish comments, photos and/or video from the Show using a pre-determined hashtag of #SEMA and have that information shared through the EnjoyTheDrive.com consumer website. Though this is not a requirement to participate in the program this year, there will be prizes awarded to the individuals who tell their friends about the great things they see at the SEMA Show via their social networks. Participation in the program also means that participants agree to post constructive feedback, positive or negative, without nudity, vulgarity, obscenity or other offensive content. Violation of this policy will result in immediate removal from the program. Once the survey is filled out at time of registration, your work is basically done!
How will the feedback and opinions I provide be used?
This feedback and input will be used to create a series of market research reports, providing SEMA Show exhibitors and the industry with invaluable insight and data. The information participants provide will be shared with SEMA member companies, customers and the media. None of your personal information including name, age, address, email will be shared.
Will my show badge be mailed to me or will I pick it up at the SEMA show?
Prior to the SEMA Show, participants will receive their show badge along with additional information regarding your participation at the show, maps, etc. Participants will need to pick up their badge holder the day of the show at Registration. Badge holders are required for admission, so they must be picked up.
Can I bring a guest with me to the show?
Participants will be permitted to extend the invitation to participate in the Opinion Leader Program to a guest, but anyone planning to attend the show will be required to have show-approved credentials. The SEMA Show is a professional trade-only event, not open to the general public. Opinion Leader Participants will be expected to adhere to all Show rules and regulations and must agree to not interfere with the ability for exhibitors and attendees to conduct business.
What is the dress code or is there a certain type of attire I should wear?
In the interest of maintaining a professional atmosphere, Opinion Leader participants must wear appropriate apparel at all times: long slacks, collared shirts, close-toed shoes, etc. Logos and sayings on apparel must be in good taste. Shorts, tank tops, flip flops, and other extremely casual dress will not be permitted. Show Management reserves the right to make determinations on appropriate apparel.
Can I bring business cards to distribute?
Random distribution or selling of promotional material, business cards or product of any type is not allowed. Anyone who is observed approaching buyers in the aisle or in an exhibitor's booth, who is not a legitimate exhibitor, will be removed from the Show.
Can I bring my child/children with me if I'm a participant?
Unfortunately, the SEMA Show is not set up for and does not provide any type of child care. The rules of the Opinion Leader Program do not permit children to participate.
Can I come earlier in the week to the SEMA show and use my opinion leader badge to get into the show?
No. The Opinion Leaders program is only open on Thursday, Nov. 3.
Will I be compensated in any way for my participation in the opinion leader program?
SEMA will not be compensating any of the participants in the program. Participants will be given exclusive VIP access to a trade only show that is not open to the public. This is a coveted opportunity to see what goes on behind the doors of the world's largest automotive specialty equipment trade show.
Is the SEMA Show open to the general public?
No, the SEMA Show is not open to the general public. It is a trade-only business event open to qualified business owners and employees of companies that are in the automotive aftermarket and specialty equipment industry.
Do I need to work in the industry to be eligible for the SEMA Show Opinion Leader Program?
No, the SEMA Show Opinion Leader Program is open to anyone that has a passion for automobiles, trucks and motorsports, active online and willing to share their feedback about the products, vehicles and trends they see at the show with show attendees and others who are not able to attend.
