As my term as PRO chair draws to an end, it’s somewhat bittersweet. It’s been a great ride. To be part of the PRO Select Committee, a diverse, passionate and dedicated group of likeminded colleagues is a gift, a chance to give back and to make a difference in ways that benefit the restyling industry that I love.
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to wear many different hats—co-owner of a restyling shop, editor of leading trade magazines, marketing consultant, freelance writer, and especially the many years I spent as part of SEMA’s management team. All of which, in one way or another, have kept me connected to PRO.
Being involved as a volunteer requires more work and commitment than simply joining a social club. But the rewards of seeing projects and initiatives—such as PRO’s newly launched SEMA Accessory Sales Professional Certificate program—come to life and make an impact that benefits our industry is worth every minute.
But the time comes, every two years, to turn over the reins. PRO recently welcomed six new select committee members whose enthusiasm and new ideas will no doubt add a new dimension to the group. As PRO moves forward under new leadership, with Dino Perfetti as chair and Josh Poulson as chair-elect, I encourage all PRO members to not just lend them your support, but to also play an active role.
If you are interested in getting more involved, our annual awards reception in Vegas, poolside at the Westgate, is a perfect place to buttonhole a select committee member. Or rise early and join fellow members at the open membership meeting, also during the SEMA Show. Ask questions, find out if there’s a subcommittee or taskforce that you could join. Next year, when nomination time rolls around, consider running for a seat on the select committee.
Since its founding in 1988, PRO has represented the collective voice of the restyling industry. And to its credit, the council has a long history of delivering value-added benefits to our members. As the now immediate past chair (IPC) of PRO, I look forward with anticipation to the role the council will continue play in helping to shape the future of our dynamic industry.
